Cid Capezza... Kilger Weapon Smithing - by McQ

I stuck my old copy of TMA in the CD drive this afternoon and had a grand old time revisiting old Thief levels. For the first time I recalled the different mechanist parts in the Kilger Weapon Smithing section of Shipping And Recieving.
Are there any theories out there as to who this guy is and why he has mechanist materials in his workshop? Did he design this stuff and then Karras took the credit for it? Or is he an alter ego (perhaps the real name of) Karras?
If this has been discussed before, I apologise. And if it's too nerdy, ditto. ;)

appeals-to-storyline reason: he probably worked with karras and the mechanist- using mechanist parts and whatnot to come up with new inventions or versions of said inventions.
"actual" reason: laziness on the part of the mapper and modellers.

Cid Capezza works for the Mechanists. He has Noah Jerm grind lenses for the 'bots "eyes" out of Addonizio Crystal. He crafted the gear-based locking mechanisms, the first of which we see in T.M. Blackheart's studio, and later in the Truart Estate.
Kilgor is just a blacksmith whose work was admired by the Hammers, his biggest customers. When the Hammers faction dwindled due to the rise of the Mechanists, Kilgor's livelihood was greatly impacted. He bemoaned having made all those hammers with no one to sell them to.

Wow, serious thought was being put into this before it ever even occured to me. Hats off to you.

I got the feeling that the Mechanists at this stage had not become a massively powerful force at that time and they had to utilise skilled craftsmen to do the work that they were not able to at the time. there is a clever reference in Shipping and Receiving to the Lost City as well; in one of the ground floor rooms in Building B there are various Lost City artefatcs. It really does amaze me how brilliant LGS were at times

I have to agree, the entire series, even the third installment, is fantastic for creating and referencing itself, leading to a well established sense of continuity that's so appealing to fans. I remember finding the piece of paper in the docks when playing Dark Shadows, that referenced the Cetus Amicus. I remember smiling widely when I read that.

I do believe you meant Deadly Shadows McQ! :o) And yes the Thief triligy is just one of the best series of games ever made. I love the references and continuity, I never tire of playing the original or fan missions. They will always have a place on my hard drive.
I only found that letter in the docks about a month or so ago on my umteenth replay. Do not ask what took so long, because I do not even know how I missed that door up there. I discover something new everytime I play the series.
