A (
http://www.civilization5.com/#/community/feature_manual) PDF version of the manual has been made available. As with the other games in the series, this one is a small novel.
Civ V gets released on September 21st, a day after Fall Quarter starts for me. I mean,
really?

Managed to find a way to trick Steam into unlocking the game for me. I've been playing all night and it's sweet, but I gotta be up in 4 hours :bored:

I've read a lot of good reviews but one criticism that they waffle on is the AI. Some say its brilliant and cunning while others say it's irrational, retarded, and receives resource bonuses on higher difficulty settings. One reviewer was annoyed that the AI always forced him in to armed conflict. In other words, if he wanted to pursue culture or diplomacy victory it would fail as one or more countries would attack him forcing the need for a large army.

If they don't "fix" the AI through patches, then surely there will be some mods that do so. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Um, surely the AI wants to win, too? If it see an enemy trying to beat it with a culture or diplomatic victory, but they are militarily weak, isn't attacking them the obvious thing to do in order to achieve its goal of victory?

True but what the picture the reviewer painted was that anything other than timed or military victory against the AI was not possible. Click link below and start reading after the first screen shot.

I've never played a Civ game and from what I've read Civ 5 seems like a good place to start. :D

If you have enough forces to defend yourself, but not enough to take over the world, there should be no reason that you can't pursue a cultural victory. Perhaps if the reviewer had secured a larger empire, he'd be able to devote just enough production on military units to stay alive, without losing sight of culture.
