My computer went tits up last night! First time it's ever done that.
This is what I emailed to Compaq Technical Support.
When I boot my Presario 5151 this what happens.
1. I turn on the power.
2. The Compaq screen comes on.
3. A small horizontal cursor blinks a few times on the top left hand of the screen.
It scrolls down one line and blinks a few times.
4. Then a thick vertical cursor blinks a few times on the upper right hand of the screen.
5. All this time the hard drive is clcking away as it normally does.
Then the Windows 98 startup screen comes on.
6. Then the hard drive stops making noise. Yet the thing that buzzes across the screen on the Windows 98 startup screen is still moving like normal instead of freezing.
7. And that's where it stays. I've waited for what seems like an hour.
Nothing.
8. I've tried to F8 and load in Safe Mode.
Same thing.
9. I put the Restore cd in and started it.
Instead of the System Restore or the Windows 98 screen I got "Starting Windows 98" like I was starting in dos. Nothing.
10. I've checked all the cables and they seem to be allright.
They sent me several suggestions of what to do.
