CliffyB says "no GoW2 on PC ever, because of piracy and Dell-esque shitboxes" - by EvaUnit02

More likely scenario, "Let's deny any possibility of an eventual PC port to boost sales of the Xbox version."
Whilst there is a lot Dell/Gateway/etc owning dumbasses that expect games to work on their shitboxes with Intel on-board solutions, it's still a bloody lame excuse.
(
http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=42663) This reminds me of that big candid rant that was given by an ex-Iron Lore employee when his studio shut down. They had some monumentally retarded DRM implementation in Titan Quest, which resulted in bad word of mouth and they then got pissy when their game tanked.
Quote:
In a discussion with TVG recently, Gears of War 2 designer Cliff Bleszinski said that the reason there was not going to be a PC version of the game was simple; high-end users.
"The PC right now is a fair amount different to what it was back in the day, with all the badly integrated video chips," said Cliff.
"Here's the problem right now; the person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know bit torrent to know all the elements so they can pirate software. Therefore, high-end videogames are suffering very much on the PC."Cliff then went on to confirm that unlike Gears of War 1, which did see an eventual port to the PC, the second game will not be making the same move. Asked if Gears of War 2 PC would be possible once the dust had settled and sales had declined on the Xbox 360 version, Cliff still said no; definitely not.

Oh no, we're going to miss out on another generic shooter. Nice knowing you Cliffy B, Unreal was a blast, bye then...
It is a lame excuse. Sounds like Epic's business model is broken when it comes to PC games and they want to focus on consoles - which is fair enough, but it's hardly PC owners fault if you make games that don't work well on your average PC.

Go then. Go to your perfumed green and white whore since she loves you so damn much now you've spent so much time and money on bicep curls and hair product. I don't care. But she's old and will die soon and you'll be alone. And you'll want to get into the steam room because it's cold outside but I won't let you! I won't hear your cries as you go sell it on the street to whatever box happens by. You were young and vital once, but no longer. I've got all the friends I need. Get out of my sight.

Because as we all know, nobody actually bought Crysis, they all just pirated it.
EvaUnit02 on 30/9/2008 at 13:36
For the record, Crysis genuinely was an unoptimised POS. Compare the performance of Warhead on the same hardware with identical driver sets and settings for your proof.

The first thing I thought when I saw this thread title was, 'Er, and I'm losing what from this, exactly?'.

Good game, CliffyB, I hope you'll get properly chewed for that on SA.
Also, EvaUnit02 is an unoptimized POS.
Also also, while you can say a lot of bad things about GoW, it sure as hell wasn't a generic shooter.

Oh sorry. I thought it was about a bunch of space marines running around shooting alien monsters with big guns. My bad.

Fuck the story/premise, his point was likely about the gameplay mechanics.
