Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't half the point of a game being a game that people need to gain some
skill with it to reach the end?
Ancient history.

It doesn't bother me if the game is not ported to the PC. The last single player game I played from Epic was Unreal II, which was a decent game, but way too short compared to the original. Besides... I'm afraid to buy PC games released today. I have to worry about what they are going to do to my system (e.g. installing hidden drivers/background processes).

If you want to see if a specific game is clean of malware, I bet there are good articles on the internet where some clever people do detective work. I saw a very good article about the malware Sony's DRM installs on PCs upon playing CDs infected with it, to name an example.

Unreal II was developed by Legend Entertainment. Not Epic.

UT99 was the last good game Epic put out IMO. Whoever is running Epic now has totally lost the spirit of the early Epic games. You know, when they were actually fun. I can play the original Tournament right next to the 2kx ones, and I tell you even with the dated visuals UT99 is far more entertaining.
Now, on to their baby, their cash cow. GoW was a real letdown for me. It's all style and no substance. The gameplay is so stupid, it's practically a rail-shooter. I played it once, then tossed it on a shelf and forgot about it. Sure it looks nice, but the real meat, how it plays, is completely hollow. Hell, Tetris has more complex gameplay. GoW is shoot, duck, shoot, move to next area. And even the simplistic gameplay is hampered by a control system that interposes itself between you and your avatar. Give me a first person perspective and the standard wasd control scheme, and GoW would be a cakewalk.

Not as easy as it sounds given that the type of copy protection used often differs with localization.
