You cannot shoot an arrow with a climbable rope anyway. I suggested a different method (

http://battletech.hopto.org/images/catgirls.gifSeriously. Look at the mechanism of the rope and vine arrows. You fire the arrow, is it trailing a rope as it flies? No, it is not. It hits, then the rope/vine magically extends from the shaft - and when you recover them the vine/rope dissapears in a magical poof.
... and there's our keyword: MAGICAL. Garrett's world is one in which magic is alive and well, as such arguements about the physics of something like a rope arrow are rendered completely moot.
Though as to FIRING a rope attached to an arrow, arrows work because they are lightweight. Any rope strong enough to support human weight is likely higher density than the shaft of the arrow, increasing the weight and therin decreasing the velocity at an alarming rate. There's a reason fired pitons for assault climbs use a heavy metal extending prong with a gunpowder or compressed gas charge many times more powerful than the strongest compound bow.
... and as to climbing a rope being impossible, tell that to the drill seargant screaming at you to get the **** up to the top and the poor schmucks who climbed the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc.
Besides, we never see the details of G climbing a rope, how do we know he doesn't have something simple like a block and tackle attached to his belt, or that a magical equivalent doesn't appear as needed?
After all, we're talking about a world where pixie dust can reveal invisible bridges.

We were just talking about rope climbing in general and considering how rope arrows could work even if not exactly like in the game. Plus, I think brooding over how such elements could work in reality is a little more interesting than hiding behind the big magical veil. :)
