No, then "you" have "your" thief. :p ;)
I still don't think anyone would suggest Mortensen if not for his a little "thiefy" role in LotR 1. If I look at his face I hardly recognize any connection to Garrett apart from that one scene in the pub in "The Fellowship of the ring".
Saw some other films he did and really like that guy - but never connected that face to this one

I just can't completely detach my imagination of a well-chosen actor for that role from the pics I took my "image" of Garrett from.
I think it is quite important to find someone who looks just a bit alike the person he's going to play - if you compare some other game-movies, you'll find no worse choice than Christian Slater for Edward Carnby in "Alone in the Dark" (which would have been a total mess without him as well), while Angelina Jolie made a quite good Lara, Sienna Guillory a good Jill...

I don't think, similarity is everything but at least it won't hurt.

The second face is the better known of the two, i also find it much more cool.

...and what's Nicholas Cage got to do with it? :p

You know, down in Europe we only just got electricity and all of that strange evil witchcraft stuff so you have to pardon me for not having caught up yet.

Ernestly, although I do understand a little English it's not always easy to struggle through the immense plenty of threads on ttlg.com if you have other things to attend to apart from that. That's how I missed it.
Nevermind, if Garrett was inspired by Cage I'm glad they did a poor job concerning that. ;)

I think the look of an actor trying to play Garrett is not that important. We never get much of a clear look at Garrett, and he's had so many different faces down the ages. What is important is his voice and his attitude. When we spent time with Garrett in the games, we spent time with his voice and his personality.
Sure Viggo has a passable look, and Cage looks like the original cover art... but none of these actors could properly pull off Garrett. Not Clive Owen, or anyone I've seen here. Garrett is too iconic. LGS really struck gold when they made him, it's rare for any character to become so emblazoned in our minds; especially video game characters.
They had the same problem in trying to cast Superman. Superman himself is an icon, where hollywood actors are their own icons. They don't mix. No one wants to see Brad Pitt in a Superman outfit. We want to see Superman. The answer? An unknown actor. I think Garrett is the same way.
Though of course the best answer is an animated movie with Stephen Russell as the voice actor.
