With so many packs floating around these days it's getting confusing deciding which ones to use.
The ones i'm aware of:
Enhancement Pack
Enhancement Pack 2.0 (not sure if it's complete?)
Thief 2 hd mod
Thief 2 Necro Age mod
Water mod tool.
Should I just go with the enhancement pack and either of the large texture overhauls?
There was mention of Hdmod being compatible with Necro Age in the Necro Age thread. Does that mean Necro age doesn't cover everything and should be installed with hdmod?
If there are any other excellent packs I haven't noticed, feel free to clue me in.

I´d say just install the HD mod if you want the best looking experience.
Use Necro age when you want a lore friendly version that doesn´t look as good as the HD mod (but I would prefer Necro age all the time)
The rest is mostly absolete.

Avoid the HD mod. It gives the game an ugly, harsh, grimy look, and it replaces all the map files, making it incompatible with any map fix mods. The other graphics mods are much more well-behaved and faithful to the original aesthetic.

Map fix mods? Never heard of such? Could you give us some links please?
As for texture HD mod, I think it looks great, but it replaces many original textures, like stained glasses, paintings, stonework etc. Sometimes for better, sure, especially graphically, but I really want a lore-friendly game, so I don't use the texture mod. Unofficial patches already contain some better textures and that's enough for me.

the most lore friendly thing youre gonna get is the ep and ep2 (check the editors guild for that)
the hdmod does in fact change the mission files. nothing "major" but certainly noticeable in some spots

The answer should be simple - try them all out and see which ones you like best. It's not that hard to have multiple Thief installs going at the same time.

I assume he means the map fixes installed by TFix/Tafferpatcher, not a separate mission fix mod.

You only need EP2, it replaces the old EP and trying to use both might cause problems. The EP's prime directive has always been adhering to only the most faithful replacement textures, so if you want a strict canon experience, I agree it's the way to go.

You newbies need to stop squawking "lore friendly" over and over. This is Thief, not Elder Scrolls or wherever you picked up that stupid expression. Thief does not do smegging "lore". That doesn't even make sense when talking about textures.
