On the West coast there are two 24-player vanilla servers. It's true that tf2 has gone downhill. Most of the cool people have left to play other games, and the majority of the new items plus the wacky hats just make the game a little goofy, but it's still a great game if you can find a good server with good regulars.
Does vanilla also force the default weapon loadouts? That would be hot as hell.

Pshh, I wish it did. You still have to play with all the crazy new crap.
Sometimes though, when the server loses its connection to steam, nobody can use the new weapons. Ohhh how I miss the old days!

I can't give up my Backburner. :( It's pretty much central to my Pyro playing style (I'm the jump down behind from above sort)

Good servers pretty much ridicule backburner Pyors until the go away. Useless wastes of space who are of no use to the team. Can't reflect, can't extinguish . . .
Though now they've given a 50-ammo compression blast to the backburner in the latest patch. Leads to such fun as a pyro letting a medic burn to death in front of him when quite near the spawn, with a reason of "I'm not wasting 50 ammo!"

Fuck the haters. When I bring the backburner out, my team faces almost no resistance because the whole enemy team is dead.
Too bad nobody bothers to grab the int anyway.

Yeah, it depends. Good backburner pyro can be out killing people. The problem is people who don't really know how to play pick it because of the slight damage bonus, don't even bother trying to use it to backburn people... and probably wouldn't know how to extinguish people even if they did have airblast.
Personally, I love airblast reflecting far too much to give it up for a big of extra damage and backburnability.

As of the last update "The Hatless Update", Backburner now has airblast. The downside is that it takes up 50 ammo per.
