Constant Freezing in game for Thief 2 - Please advise

Hello, today I bought thief and thief 2 to play on my laptop. The laptop itself is a 1.6 MHz duo core Intel (I don't actaully know what duo core means!) with 1 GB of RAM and an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB graphics card. You can imagine my dissapointment when the game froze mere moments into playing the first level. I have since tried the game several times with the same result. I don't know why this is happening as I far exceed the requirements of the game. Please advise on a course of action I can take to remedy this situation.

It's a hyperthreading issue. Not hard to fix...just take your time and follow the instructions. You basicly need to tell thief to only use one of the processors.

actually, finding that FAQ on google was what led me here... and if i hadn't found this place, i doubt i'd ever have gotten into thief OR system shock.
