Thank the builder you guys are here to help: I'm doing this mission right now as well!
I'm polaying TG, and it's been 10 years since I first played my original copy of TDP. So my memory is a bit fuzzy, obviously.
And I'm now wandering around the mansion, looking for these clues, and can't find them. I can't find this 'garden' that you speak of, and I don't have my lockpicks on me anymore. Is that normal? I can't remember.
I have consulted Klatremus' maps, but still can't find the garden. I don't want to cheat SO much as to read through the whole walkthrough, so any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You should have lockpicks. If you don't, I'd start over. :erm:
The garden is most of the north and northeast part of the map, plus there's a huge addition to the map starting from the garden that TDP didn't have, which is about as big as TDP's original mission alone. If you go the 1st floor, and head north in the main hallways, you will either walk right into it, or into the kitchen right next to it. It's more complicated on the second floor, but south is the direction you need to go.

Thanks jtr7 - I figured it out on my own very soon after that post (of course!).
Really, an additional section almost as big as the original mission? We are talking about 'Escape' here, not 'The Sword', right?
I'm playing Escape, and looking for evidence. Though why I don't have lockpicks is still a mystery to me, as after finishing the mission, and starting 'Strange Bedfellows' I found that I had them again.
I gotta say, from the standpoint of script - the Strange Bedfellows episode is a superb point. (But that's getting off topic.)

In Sword, there is an extra section, but only if you have TGOLD. In escape, your tools are all laying on the floor in various places in the temple where you wake up.
You don't need lockpicks in Escape, so I don't think you have any during that mission. In Escape, you need to search all the trees in the various areas.
The evidence is hidden in one of the tree houses in the mazes after you go down the stairs and bypass the patrolling Ratmen and Insect beastie.
Your post about "Constantines Mansion" is a little confusing. Sword is your first exposure, and in TGOLD there is a extra "level" (little-big land). In Escape, you are again in the mansion. In both you search for evidence.
If you are past those and working on a new mission, it would be less confusing for us readers if you so state early in your post.
Exactly where are you at the moment. As for "Lockpicks" you don't need them in "Strange bed-fellows".

Sorry, I hadn't realized we'd gone off topic from The Sword to Escape!:o
Yeah, my answer would've been very different.:cheeky:

Yeah, it was probably me being confused from the outset.
I think Hammadriyad was talking about The Sword, by I was playing Escape when I saw the post, and (as it simply said Constantine's Mansion) leaped into it talking about my level. Sorry.
There are doors you can pick in Bedfellows, but I think there is a way around most of them, anyway.

:p:p That clears the air a bit. Thanks Stephe. As the mansion shows up in two missions, and the original was about the Sword, your query about the "garden" kinda made me go "Huh?".
Evidence in Sword is in the garden.
Evidence in Escape is in the maze of treehouses. :)

As for "Lockpicks" you don't need them in "Strange bed-fellows".
Or any of the missions after Return To The Cathedral, for that matter.
And since you don't have lockpicks in the first three missions, either, this means that in the original TDP, lockpicks were only used in roughly one half of the missions. I'd never thought about that before - lock picking always felt like such an essential part of Thief.
