My corn is superior corn.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3018396/Misc/arms.gifSpeaking of which, I was out later than what I thought I'd be tonight, so I didn't get the chance to work on the ears and fronds to finish it up. I will have it tomorrow evening, most definitely.
Also, how tall do you want the stalks to be? Tall 6"+ plants or smaller?
Average sweet corn stalk height is about 7 foot. Field corn stalks can get up to 12 foot in height!. Your stalk looked awfully fat and stumpy to me. :cheeky:
But that's modern hybrid corn. Ancient corn was a small grass (teosinte), maybe 3 foot in height before the selective breeding by the Indians produced maize.

It's sink corn, man. You should know as well as anyone here that you take what you get and don't expect miracles when it comes to sink corn.
If I were to size it to be around 9-10 feet, do you think the leaves would be too big?
sNeaksieGarrett on 10/12/2012 at 06:08
haha
So yeah, I guess 9 to 12 or whatever seems to look right would be cool. I can also manually scale in dromed too. Thanks for making the sink corn, dude.

This should give you a sense of how to scale the leaves to the stalk no matter how tall you make it.

Looks easy enough. Worst case scenario is I have to space the leaves a little farther out on the stalk, which won't take long at all to do.
Steel yourself, Sneak. YOU'RE GETTING CORN TONIGHT!

If only it wasn't time-consuming to think of the objects they want in the world as having a history in that world, having a reason for being there through circumstances and choices and the elements and life, so that, in this instance, the type of corn, the growth rate, the location, all belie its own story that goes at least all the way back to when it was a kernel in an ear. How old is it? What time of year is it? Is it watered form above and/or below? How did the seed get there? Is it being tended to, or is it wild? Is it healthy? Is receiving the right amount of light, nutrients, and insect-free, bird-free? I know it's ridiculous, especially for one person, to take it so far for every object. I tend to think of these things like a set-designer, heh heh.

I tend to agree. But when you're making generic assets to order, there's only so much you can do.

I hadn't thought out in that much detail jtr7, although this is supposed to be one that is planted in the typical fashion (according to what I read anyway) and is harvested in October or November. However, I didn't give him any details on the corn so he did what he wanted to do, and it turned out nice regardless.

The models are nice, regardless, of course.

Corn on the stalk

Inline Image:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3018396/corn_sink.jpgI wanted to do the tassels, but since it's already pretty high poly as it is, I decided to forego them for more ears of corn.
So what do you think? If you like it, I'll test it out ingame and send you the .bin and .e files.
edit...I think I need to make it taller. Judging ear-to-stalk ratio, I'd say that thing is only about 5 1/2 feet or so.
