One good thing about this thread is how it's educated me on not only the finer points of corn, but also the higher arts.

:p
The silk would be visible on the ear, but not the kernels. :p:p

Your attention to the finer points is greatly appreciated, Renz'. :thumb:

Hehe, who knew a thread about a corn stalk plant object would be so informative and useful.:cheeky:
Judging by that new image, it still looks great. In my opinion, a few less pieces of corn and leaves is acceptable and is a minor thing. If you look at the one from SS2, it's even more basic than that.:o
Renz, it showed as an unshaded pink model. Alright, I'll mess with the viewport shading or whatever and post back.
Edit:
Ah, I figured it out while following that tutorial you linked me. Your texture was set up properly, it's just that it was set to C:\users\yourname\Desktop and I had to browse for where I put the .tga.
Reminds me of what happened to me in my 3dsmax class in school where if you sent the max file to the instructor with the textures they would still be missing because the paths were all wrong and had to be changed.

I can't help but feel I'm being made fun of a little bit. :P
Oh well, corn's important.
Sneaksie: Good deal. One good thing you can do with that model is check out what I did before it's been all confused up with tris. You can see it's a fairly simple thing. All I did was make about 3 leaves, shaped them up a bit, and floated them around the stalk. Think of it as a primer to the tutorial.
...which I'll get around to eventually. I've gotta relearn all Blender's hotkeys, and that's kinda sucking all the initiative out of me.

Heh, gotta love 3ds to bin.:cheeky: I just tested your model in dromed after I converted it to .3ds and then bin. The game actually ran rather well (upwards of 50 fps), and then I added a whole bunch of them and that's when things started to slow down a bit. (I added about 50 of them I think and when looking at them from a certain angle that's when dromed reported a framerate below 30.) However, considering that it makes more sense to have a smaller area rather than a larger area for time and overwhelming purposes, I don't think 50 is necessary I guess. Also, there will be other things in the scene. The other thing to is, you have to be looking at the corn stalks for Thief to slow down too.
Yes I know I was warned about this but I was curious to test it for myself since I really wanted to see the plant in dromed.

Not one iota of making fun of you. I am thinking about the people who don't care about the finer details and try to pass off half-ass work as praiseworthy excellence, though, so my appreciation for attention to finer details is sincerely great!

Did it export with the doublesided materials and everything? Pics or it didn't happen!
(

I would've made fun of me. But I'm naturally snarky, so...you know... :P

I don't know about double-sided or whatnot, but I just did a standard .3ds export from blender and it looked fine to me in dromed. Screenie below:

I didn't know how to get rid of the extra ear of corn though, so I just exported as-is. Oh, it was also rather small in dromed, so I had to manually up-scale it's dimensions. (Actually, as I'm writing this I think that's partly 3ds to bin's doing since it appears to automatically scale things down. I just left the values as they were when I first launched the program.)
By the way, what's with the red circle thingy in blender? I don't get what it does and it's a tad annoying.
Renzatic on 11/12/2012 at 22:36
It looks about 5 feet tall, give or take, so it's about right. I haven't gotten around to making it super tall yet.
Also, I took the magical floating corn out of the rev above. But...really...I think you should leave it in.
The red circle thingy is your 3D cursor. You use it to define pivot points, scale points, where you drop in objects, and all that good stuff.
