When you get the key, Sheam should say to leave it in Cloud's Suite, in the nightstand... if you're in the office, you need to head south.

If you accept Rubber's chores, he mentions that you should check the front desk for keys... if you did that, you have your way into the ambassadors's suite.Thank you. :D We designed MX from the ground up with replayability in mind. Care to try for 100% loot?
And...
Did you get the 'best' ending?bigger spoiler...
Where they name Dante by his material agent codename...Oh no I must have missed that one. I will try to listen better next time. Is there another way?? I can´t imaging where to find 1500 more loot unless it is in the ambassadors suite :erm:
No I didn´t hear him called by that name in the end?? I did get 4 documents and the mistress room though.

This mission made me realize how bad of a thief I really am when I'm not running on carpet or wood. :laff:
The good news is that its not cheaply frustrating, and each time I sound the alarm or die I'm left thinking "now, how could I have approached that differently? Oh yeah - that way!" and it makes you want to reload and try again instead of quit. Unfortunately I'm still getting caught and getting the tar beaten out of me. Definitely a challenging mission, moreso than any I've played before (except maybe Ink and Dust).
I know I've said it already - but Brilliant stuff. Thanks again.

So I reinstalled thief with ddfix and DarkWidescreen v5r2 and I got the same cube, BUT when I uninstal ddfix and widescreen I can start with no cube. I really want to play in wide screen so I will keep trying, but I thought I would drop by and let you know what I found out.

Another confirmation for gen.osm solving (hopefully) that show stopper. I started wondering why final mission didn't work since many earlier versions did. I too had wrong file on new Thief install. I didn't hear even first line from Steel "Steel here..." after choosing task (disable camera) and asking about vents. After changing gen.osm to right one, that was solved and Steel can be now heard. I hope all works smoothly from now on.
I installed by unzipping manually. Video started working after installing old indeo driver from Thief CD. I did update Thief 2 with T2PremierPatch107-118.exe, which is about 10MB bigger than widely used Thief2Patch107-118.exe. Is there any difference or are those just for different retail releases?
edit: Changing gen.osm didn't do any good to saved games (only have them after getting gear) so have to start again. Once flow of communication is broken it stays that way apparently.

This MAY be where the bad gen.osm came from!

Nope, I checked and that bad file was already included in unpatched Thief 2 files. I guess it depends on release. Both updates do modify gen.osm though.
