I just accomplished the first task of Sheam and just in time, barely managed it, as it took a lot of time for me to explore, enjoy the view etc. and noone from MCs said the objective had a time limit
Does the time for the task(s) start to count from after I choose a task, or after a certain event more close to the target, like entering the basement etc.? I think about 1-2hrs passed since I picked the task. Please tell me if there will be more tasks with time limit when the time limit is not mentioned as condition, and if yes how much time Dante will have for each of them?
The main question is this though - will I be able to explore the Ivory Rose as long as I want (maybe after finishing all my tasks), or there is a certain time limit for the whole mission and I won't be able to lenghten it and must hurry?
I'm ready for spoilers on this matter as it's crucial for my play style.

QuincyWannbeJones is credited with the voice of "Sergeant Dendrington," but I don't think I heard that conversation. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get Dendrington to show up?
Or did I just miss it?
Thanks!

Only the objective you choose has a time limit, and that limit is 2 hours from the moment you chose it. After that, there are still time limits for certain bonuses, but none of them will fail the mission.Bigger spoiler
In order to get the best ending, the time limit is much shorter than 2 hours, and the other time limits matter.

You may notice that there's a note on a table in the Pearl Bar signed by Dendrington, saying he is waiting for a delivery. You may also notice that one of Rubber's chores is to deliver a scroll case to the Monarch Suite, where Raputo's forces are holed up. You may want to watch what happens after you leave the scroll case.Bigger Spoiler
The guard patroling outside the Monarch Suite is Dendrington. When you leave the scroll case there, he will take it. Follow him.Biggest Spoiler
He will eventually get to the Pearl Bar and collect his men. This is where that conversation happens. However, far more important things take place between him collecting his men and him taking the scroll case you left.

So if I get it right, the countdown starts everytime I myself choose a task via Com Mask, right? When I'm just told to do something I may loiter as long as I want? Also, does it matter for the rule if there is only one or multiple tasks that I must actually choose from via the Mask, countdown starts in both cases?Quote:

No, it's very specific. The countdown begins when you choose either the camera task or the elevator power task. However, there is also a time limit for choosing your task. It's not hard to understand that much - Sheam begins to scold you if you do not answer.
Timed -
Once you say you have your mask, you need to respond that you know how to use it. (a minute or two)
Once you have said you know how to use it, you need to choose your task. (a minute or two)
Once you have chosen your task, you must complete it (two hours).
The only other time is when Rubber asks you to complete his rounds, and then if you do not say yes or no within 30 seconds or so, Dante will automatically say no.
You'll have to wait for the walkthrough for the conditions for the best ending. ;)

Ok I see now, I thought there would be more timed tasks that I have to choose from via the mask. So there is only one major time limit, that's good. Those minor time limits are more obvious.

Heeding your request for more health potions!
I have a thought - In the options menu, under game, do you have auto-equip turned off? That would prevent the new dialog options from appearing. You would still get them, but you wouldn't see them pop into your inventory.
Yes, I had auto-equip turned off. I find it highly annoying. However, I played from the beginning this morning with it turned on and it opened up a whole slew of options. I found this FM so much more enjoyable this time around, now that I actually got to choose my path instead of the game choosing it for me. Apparently, certain things in this FM simply don't work when auto-equip is turned off.
As for me being insensitive, yes I forgot the spoiler tags. That was just a simple mistake.
My little rant wasn't meant to be directed at you or this FM or anyone in particular. I was just going off cause I'm so tired of Dark Engine's flaws and the total failure of many FM makers to consider that we aren't all master Thief players who never need to heal. As I pointed out, Dark Engine's flaws will screw up even the best players from time to time and this really should be accounted for during the construction of any FM.
I'm sorry if you took my rant personal or felt that I was attacking your FM, or just being an ass in general. That was not my intention. I'm aware that I often ruffle people's feathers, whether intentional or not. Sometimes I do a poor job of keeping myself in check. Please don't take my garbage personally.
Anyway, as pissed as this FM has made me, I keep playing it over and over. That speaks volumes in my book. It's definitely one of the best I've ever played, easily in the top three. Well done and thank you.

Did you see the note on the table? Their sarge is waiting for a delivery, and when he gets it, he will come and get them and they'll all leave. If you check your list of chores, one of them is to make a delivery to the Monarch suite (leave it outside the door), where all of Raputo's other forces are holed up.I should point out that not everyone cares to ghost a mission. This delivery scenario only works if you ghost the mission, which is why some people can't figure out how to get the guards out of the bar without alerting them.
Personally, I enjoy knocking out as many guards as I can. It's even more fun to blackjack them from the front, get chased, and slowly blackjack them to death as I dodge a sword. I just love their comments.

Rubber's tasks are separate from the goal of returning the key. It's impossible to reach the end of the mission without reaching the juncture where Rubber asks you whether you'll complete his errands, so you must have told him "No" without realizing what you were doing. All areas of the mission are open to you regardless of what objectives you choose. Only the order and difficulty of reaching them changes.
Also, please add spoiler tags to your posts, CaptSyn. You're leaving some important spoilers in plain sight.
Sorry about the spoiler tags. This is the only board I've ever been on that has that feature, and I'm not nearly as active here as others are, so I'm not used to it. I'll try to check myself on that.
Actually, it's not impossible to finish the mission without getting the option of doing Rubber's tasks. I did it twice. It seems the above issue (auto-equip) was the cause of that. With auto-equip turned off, I didn't get the conversation at all, let alone the choice. And I didn't just rush through and ignore the conversations. I never got the chance to tell him yes or no. Sheam simply told me to return the key and Steel said he would finish Rubber's tasks. Oh, and Sheam didn't scold me for not responding either.
I know it's supposed to work the way you say, but it simply didn't.

Also, if you don't reply within a certain time, it is assumed you cannot do the tasks. So, if perhaps you didn't realize the masks were in inventory, it's just like saying no.I can only assume this is what happened, as I had auto-equip turned off. However, I never got the conversation asking me to choose anything, like I said above.
Once I'm finished playing this time around, with auto-equip turned on and apparently everything working properly, I'll play again with auto-equip turned off and report back if I have the same problems again.

Playing thru a second time on expert and am completing Rubber's tasks. I'm supposed to deliver a scroll case but I am unable to locate it in the first place. Where is it?
Krush on 19/8/2008 at 00:31
It's in one of the 4th floor offices. I think you'll get there if you go in the Mahogany Hall balcony doors, then take a right and go around the corner. It should be on a desk in the first or second office on your left.
