I agree. That mission was trying too many things that detracted from getting to the core of Thief. Which hurt all the more as the execution (technical and visual design) is damn near perfect.
There was a thread about "mainstream FMs" a little while ago, and I was tempted to give MX as an example of a very high production value work lacking the charm that makes the Thief universe alive.
Apologies to the authors for not keeping unconstructive thoughts to me.

Thief atmosphere? You don't call a high profile heist thiefy with lots of guards to get past? Come on... I mean, you can't just run up to someone and expect them to ignore you. This level does have stealth, and quite a bit. And also, I believe mission x is similar to the OMs. Course I may be misunderstanding what was meant by thief atmosphere.

I don't think it's all that bad a criticism if some people disliked the atmosphere, because we were going for an experience with marked differences from the classic Thief one. Most people liked the differences, but they can also violate one's notions of what a Thief experience should be.

Indeed. Though Mission X is a great mission, it misses something qua atmosphere that was a key thing in the original missions. Problem is to name that something. :p

HAHA just finished it without the lightswitch key for the first time. Not perfect though, I had to knock out a couple of servants, plus I was seen once by a guard and had to run to the bathroom vent shaft.
Luckily no nobleman was around to set off the alarm though...
I know what you mean about being different from most Thief missions. If it was Garrett, he would have done it all himself - turned off the power, shut down the cameras, then climbed into the vault.
And that might have been even cooler than this mission. Ironically, a mission like that probably would have been EASIER for the developers, because they wouldn't have had to mess with the communications mask and all the conversation options for the other team members.
Still, Mission X is a monumental acheivement that won't be topped anytime soon. I can't complain - except perhaps about the outrageous marble abuse on the 3rd floor! There really should have been carpeting on the connecting hallways going north-south on the 3rd floor.

sorry to bother, but it seems, that the wallpaper art links are both broken (widescreen and normal) and the general mission downloads for ttlg mirrors are broken.

Another of thousands of link-casualties of the great server crash of 2009?

Well, yeah, but they were being reuploaded. Plus, I just now noticed those wallpapers. It's about time I had a good one.

Sometimes I think our links are made from crisco. :weird:
