Kethoth, I'd be careful about disparaging women Thieves in this forum. This community has a large percentage of women players. I've never heard anyone voice the opinion that a woman shouldn't be a thief. :weird:
This is not disparaging women. But if some stupid feminists are offended, I'm glad.

Watch it, Kethoth!:tsktsk: You're stepping WAY over the line here. Your last sentence does disparage women. There is absolutely no reason why a woman couldn't be a master thief and particularly in this, an imaginary universe.
Sly...*smack upside the head" YOU make the brownies! :cheeky: I'm busy picking pockets.

Thief is a serious fantasy setting based on past of our world.
Is it?

I am neither stupid nor do I consider myself a feminist. Yet, I was bothered by your statement.
Sly, I'd be honored to make brownies for you, but mine most closely resemble hockey pucks. :p
OK. Enough off topic. This is the Mission X thread. Let's get this back on topic.

Loading times are painfuly long - even quickloading. Does anyone else have this problem?
Another thing is, I don't like the fact that there is a woman among elite thieves.
Thief is a serious fantasy setting based on past of our world and placing women in such high positions damages integrity of it.
:tsktsk: Wrong. Thief is not based on our past world, it's similar however. Come on, this is thief - not Civilization or Age of Empires.

Depends on what one calls "painfully long". Loading times in Mission X were longer than average for me, too, but still in the "okay" range whenever the computer used was fast enough to play Mission X. An ancient Pentium-II (350 MHz) laboured for almost an eternity when Mission X was prepared for use (with Darkloader) and whenever I started a new game or loaded a saved game. But this computer is a relic from the past already, and playing Mission X was nearly impossible with this machine as well. Apparently, the mission just uses too many resources to be played on such an old machine. I accept that.
The other machines I used to play Mission X ran at 700 MHz and above, and while loading times still were longer than for any average mission, I found loading times as well as smoothness in-game acceptable.
So... How long does it take to load a saved game on your computer?

Thief is only partially based on our past. Thieves and guards using swords and bows as their main weapons have been present for very long times in our past - I'd guess from about the times of ancient Rome to at least the middle ages. However, electric lights became common much later, walking robots have not become common yet (but still may), and (real) magicians and gods or god-like beings (I'm mainly thinking of the late Mr. Constantine) have not been confirmed in our world yet, and maybe never will. Women coming into positions of power appear to be a fairly new development (and a good one, I believe), but even that is not completely correct (ever heard of Cleopatra?). And last but not least it's Mission X we're talking about, and the protagonists there may have been thieves before, but now are more like secret agents - something I don't remember from the original
Thief games' storyline(s). Mission X can be considered an expansion of the
Thief world, and not everything present here can be expected to be present as well in the
Thief games.
Therefore I believe that it's no problem at all that at least two of the main protagonists (the female agent working with Dante and others inside the inn as well as the "voice on the radio" coordinating the agents' attack) here are female.
Hmmm... what about a female haunt next time, huh?;) I don't remember having seen one yet, although female hammers are very uncommon as well. Oh, and we need a female skeleton as well, you know.:cheeky:

I am a little bemused at the recent trend of negativity aimed at Mission X.
Recent? If I recall that correctly, there already were negative remarks concerning Mission X just a few weeks after release. In fact, I did not like several aspects of gameplay either (I even stopped playing
Thief for several weeks because of that), but since most of them had already been mentioned when I finally calmed down enough to state some real criticism instead of delivering a pointless rant fuelled by wrath and disappointment, I decided not to say much. It would not have been useful anymore. Furthermore, I found gameplay of the patched version of Mission X significantly improved, and while I still was rather content than pleased with that, I think that some of the negative criticism has found its way to the mission authors and into the patch. Not to mention that some of the points I did not like (e.g., some disadvantages of the communication masks) really could not be changed unless one would almost completely rebuild Mission X.
I see that the people behind Mission X did not completely ignore what the players did not like about the mission, even if it wasn't a bug, so this effort did not go unnoticed. You (and the other authors) may not feel pleased by all this, but at least content, maybe. Your contributions to the patch were not wasted.

What I meant was, lately, there seems to be primarily negativity associated with the mission, as opposed to more of a balance previously. In the early days there was plenty of criticism, but it was constructive, and mirrored by praise as well. These days whenever someone comes here to speak about it, it is seemingly only to complain, degrade, disparage, and promote the idea that the entire effort was a waste.
I'm not saying that these people are wrong. I am saying that it's what I've noticed. It's quite remarkable really that in a community that's usually so positive and accepting of people's work and new ideas, Mission X should be something so seemingly universally criticized. That sends me a strong message... a message that my perception of what constitutes an enjoyable Thief Mission is fundamentally warped.

Bullshit. Thief has absolutely nothing to do with EARTH history. Inspiration was drawn from our history, but the Thief world is a world unto itself.

I think I haven't said it here: I think Mission X is a GREAT mission, one of the best missions ever made! Story: very good, architecture: wonderful, gameplay: lovely. It is completely different from any other FM, but meanwhile it has so many classic elements you can't miss. :thumb:
happy now? ;)

Quit your trolling and get out, this isn't how we do things around here. You're the one being stupid with your blatant disrespectful comments. That being said.
If you don't like it, don't play Thief then, simple really why should you bother, if it bothers you that much? Will it change anything? No. The thief world and this community wouldn't be the same without all players involved, including women. Some of the most brilliant FM's have come from women around here. Take your misogynist views elsewhere.
