I'm not saying that these people are wrong. I am saying that it's what I've noticed. It's quite remarkable really that in a community that's usually so positive and accepting of people's work and new ideas, Mission X should be something so seemingly universally criticized. That sends me a strong message... a message that my perception of what constitutes an enjoyable Thief Mission is fundamentally warped.
Well, even if so, fundamentally warped doesn't mean bad. For me it's quite opposite actually. It's the same with films and music.
I'm just not much interested in "usual" or "standard" stuff I guess.
PS: What I especially respect is perfectionism, an it's surely a trait of CoSaS missions.

Humm. Let's break it down shall we?
Player carries a pointy thing good for hurting people...check
Player carries a bow with various arrows...check
Player carries a blunt object to knock people out...check
Player carries lock picks...check
Player sneaks around and steals everything not nailed down...check
Player engages in some good old fashioned reconnaissance and espionage...check
Player gets a date with a hot chick after a long nights work...check
So to sum it up the player does everything Garrett does and then some.
Sounds good to me.:)

just next time put in some brownies will ya!

Mission X is not what would be considered an easy mission, and I think that's the root of it. It's a challenge, not only in gameplay and innovative use of things, but in perception. I don't think that's bad at all, and I believe those were the intentional and positive goals of it's creation. Of course, this challenges acceptance of changes and differences, as usual. Personally, I have a fundamental hatred of timed games/tests--bad memories--but I fully recognize that that is ME, and not a mistake on Team CoSaS's part. I'd like to know what nature the gripes would take on if the players were honest about what's really happening with themselves.
Mission X got so much right. It was an honor and a pleasure to be asked to help the team get it out the door and to experience the genius and erudition of it.
I'd seriously reconsider taking those who can't enjoy it too seriously, Digi. There will always be a percentage of them, as I know you well know. But I do understand. I really do. Blame the recent dip on seasonal affective disorder (SAD), or something.
Don't let it influence CoSaS 3: 9YS!

man - it's like thief meets Bond! ;)
(with maybe a little Monty Python throw in for lolz!)
"My name is Dante, just Dante"! :sly:
ring, repeat, repeat, repeat, OMG my stomach hurts so much from laughing!!!! BRILLIANT!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :laff:

Steel is the only one who is giving you a hard time about being slow. ;) He would like nothing better than for Dante to flunk out and to be a hero.
NOT
exactly true there Digi! it took me so much time to get the hell off of
the rafters above Mahagony Hall then to the 3rd floor to get
Cloud's key in the theater (SO many guards + low on KO drops + tile floors + SO much light = SLOW going!) that the dialog about the mask chafing got triggered and then of course that means that SHEAM made that
snide remark about the damn thing "only supposed to be worn for an hr or two, not 4, or 5, or
TWELVE"! I tell you - that kinda ticked me off!
Great! now even more remarks from Sheam about how long it's taking me - dammit - w/o KO ability and with so many guards -
ghosting is NOT a Speedy Gonzales method!

That's neat. :)
Because that's really unfair to the player. Events should be based on either their own mistakes or correct choices, or be totally out of their control - but those events out of their control shouldn't be unfair, should never force a failure upon them, and shouldn't dramatically alter the scenario based on a dice roll. At least, that's my game design philosophy.
I liked that idea of his, about Dante having to temp abandon his task to help a teammate. just don't make it so that there's really a chance of failure, make it more of just a gameplay device to add even more of a team feel to a future team mission! (if there will be more like this - sure hope so - i kinda like it!) i think a player would feel all nicely puffed up if he had to save a teammates bacon and after it the other members chimed in with congrats! HAH!:
Steel: "Oh man, I really slipped up on that one, um, okay okay, thanks Dante, i, um, i, i guess i owe you one ok mate!" :sly: :ebil: :p
now, one equipment gripe:
screw health potions - the structure of this mish means that if you really take THAT much damage, well gee, ya aint all that great at thief huh? what
I really need/needed was
more KO drops!!!!! :grr:
(not like 4 or 5 or more either. i know there's one more i can get from quick scanning ahead in walkthrough (just a spot check to see if there WERE any more to get!), but i think one or 2 more besides that would be just perfect - would still have to ghost a bit -but not the 80% i have to now that i am out of KO powah! :grr:

@ Garrett's Shadow: I know how you feel. I am not a good ghoster either, and on my first playthrough I ended up using that little dagger to backstab the crap out of a good number of guards, just so I could move around at least a little more freely. Killing is normally not my style, but I felt I had to thin out the guard forces to have any chance to succeed the mission. It took some careful planning to get to situations where I could do the deed and then get away without raising the alarm or get beaten to a pulp.
Garrett's Shadow on 16/11/2009 at 12:26
normally i am not adverse to killing, but i TRY to save that for when i just can NOT get into a guards "blind side" for "kiss-o-BJ"!
i am more than willing to play the millimeter creep - but not when under any kind of a time gun! (and to me - even just the teams impatience was such!)
i also decided that in the honesty of true RP-ing, that i JUST WOULD NOT KILL THIS TIME! no matter what! i, as Dante, the neophyte of the MC's, would want to make Master Nightfall proud and validate his trust in Sheam.
(not to mention wanting to impress that babe into a MUCH closer relationship!) :ebil:  :ebil: :cheeky:
anyone hear the pitter patter of tiny future MC feet???
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well, all done!
Agent Glass, no longer a neophyte!
COSaS team: I shall forevermore be utterly grateful! Greatest experience playing a game EVER!
(even with not having enough KO abilty! :cheeky: )
and you have succeeded at the prime rule of presentation:
Cuz I want MORE!!! glad to have finished BUT, like Bond, now that i am done here at the IR, i need another mission!!!!!!
I also shall forevermore refer to this mission as:
Mission Xcellent!!!!!! :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:
gee - regular Thief mishes are now gonna seem SOOOOO lonely!

Bad, bad, evil people, you made me wish for haunts and zombies allthought I hate them.
You made me run around for 3/4 of the game with the lights on and getting killed every 3 minutes! ahem.. this was my bad, I totaly forgot the second grating with the keyuntil I read the posts here.
Evil people, making fun of me ,you smart big agents, while I was trying to stay alive AND trying to show off to the lady at the same time.
I kept all the time thinking that she was waiting for me out at the cold taping her fingers with impatience while I was fullfilling :sweat:this and :sweat:that and god ! all the others finished and gone for drinks and I felt sooo :o :o.
At that point, I said WTF and started bashing some doors open, tempted to use the fire arrows but I kept them to have barbeque for two later at night.
For all the above, and for many other bad deeds you did to me, I thank you all and every one for making this amazing adventure :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
1.About the objective to find the room of the boss's lover:I did what I should do with the door, objective ticked,at the end I told the agent about it ,she said '' bravo good boy" or something, but at the screen at the end this objective was crossed as if I failed it.
There was a hint in the vents I found it afterwards...could this be the reason for the failed objective?
2.Was it possible to enter the row of the rooms 203,204... 303, 304...and I missed it? Please tell me, I like to make my automaps blue all over.
Thank you again for your perfect mission : )

One of the greatest fm I ever played !
:thumb:
There are a few things I'd like to know , like
how do I open the accountant's safe?
How do I get inside the captain of the guard's office ?
How am I supposed to drag the drunk guard up that shaft with the broken ladder (which I suppose is the cool way to do this objective)? or did I miss something there ?
Can I go into the safe, or are there big secret areas?
Because I searched pretty thoroughly (except maybe the ventilation) and could only find about 5000 loot on 8000  :(
If there's a walkthrough please link me, I'll look for one later because I had a long day just playing this mission.
Serves me right for choosing Impossible on my first play through.
