Thats the plan.
I like the idea of cutting the sleeves off, as a cheap wool cloak should be easy to find. A journey to party city will probably suffice.
Any ideas where to find a jacket like that at a reasonable price? I have not been looking hard, but I've yet to find one that looks right and is under 200 bucks.
Just remember, wool is very warm, almost hot. Depending on where your location is. We're starting to get into the summer months. Certain fabrics, you will get very warm. Wool isn't exactly cheap either.
Party city, *may* have something, but, their costume selection doesn't hit the stores until Halloween. There are a ton of websites offering all kinds of Ren. clothing. I've shopped enough for clothes of that time period, and at party city.
This site (

This vendor I watch on Ebay. (

As others have stated, if you want it to look cool, spend the money and make it look cool. A proper costume will go a long way in achieving the looking you want. If you look around enough, you can find decent merchants that won't break the bank.
But, once you start adding accessories, you find this and that. Prices do add up, especially if you want something decent enough. The gaunlets, gloves, the this, the that, after awhile, it can add up, choose wisely, and take your time figuring out what you really want. I found, if it really speaks to me, and it was like YES, this is cool, I want it. It was a good buy.

To above poster: DragonCON takes place Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, GA, so its going to be extremely hot outside. Downtown, 100* or higher is almost guaranteed. For that reason, any kind of "thick" outfit is a no-go. The cloak is an obvious exception, since it won't actually be against my skin.
@ Bikerdude: I love the vulcan biker gang. Its just....perfect.
its because his outfit isn't exact that going for the cheapest accessories should be do-able. As long as I can find some materials that look like they were made from the right materials (ie, nothing obviously synthetic), it should look good.
For the contact, something as simple as (
http://www.vampfangs.com/Aqua-FX-Lenses-p/aquamax.htm) should work. I remember seeing other contacts that look like a camera lens (perfect), but I can't find the link ATM.
From the cheap end, I'm thinking something along the lines of THIS costume
(
http://www.costumesupercenter.com/csc/prod/119272/i/1/product.web). That one might even be good enough to stand alone as the main portion of it if I cut the gold trim from it. Combined with a dark medieval under-shirt and a cloak, it would look great.
I have had an idea for the moss arrows. I could take one of those small foam balls they sell at hobby stores, paint it brown, then cover that in superglue or some other fast-acting, clear glue before spinning it in a bag of moss, the green stuff thats fake but looks fairly realistic. The other arrows can be obtained by either using the mold-it stuff, or shaving down the styrofoam rectangles into the distinctive hexagon "crystal" shape seen in the first game.
I still plan to use a cloak, as all the box art depicts him wearing one. The under-shirt is not as important, because it varies from laced up shirt to padded leather on the few occasions it is visible. I also have several leather dress shoes, any of which would be noisy enough to work. I'm thinking about adding some metal "clicker" heals for effect :P
However, what is going to distinguish this from your standard fantasy outfit is the gear, because it is the only unique part of garrett's attire. Otherwise, it would be easily possible to be mistaken for a jedi or other robe-wearing adventurer. With that in mind, accurate crystal arrows, blackjacks, and whatnot are even possible. I also plan to use another of those foam spheres to make a "flashbomb".

Which sword are you gonna go with: Garrett's training sword or Constantine's?

Take heed about the *prescription from your eye doctor*. A must for the special contacts.
