Personally I think the cradle would look crap in dromed. The spiral staircases would be gone, they would crash the engine, at least in the wide spaces that the Cradle calls for. The thing that makes the cradle scary, the puppets with their manic jerky movements would also be gone. What, above all, would be the point? The Cradle is perfect the way it is.
Why would any DromEdder wish to waste their time making a game which already exists?

The puppets weren't the scary part.

what was then?

Unique mixture of thousand details...

nah, plagiarism is only when you copy other stuff and try to pass it off as your own
That's right, but even if the author credited the original, it would be just a carbon copy of an already existing masterpiece.
A remake of a very old game, like reconstruction of the Citadel, in a more advanced engine is attractive thing to do, and reasonable for eliminating compatibility issues with new generation of PCs. But I think in this case, the community should focus on new original fanmissions and campaigns.

The suspense. The anticipation. The not knowing what's in this horrible place, but knowing something IS in here with you. The atmosphere sets you up, then dangles you at arms length, and you know you're just waiting to be devoured.
The first part of the map had me practically peeing my pants at every corner just knowing SOMETHING was in here SOMEWHERE. Sure, the initial contact with the puppets was the climax of it all, but once you can get over that, they're not more than really creepy.
Once you've played the level and have gotten over the initial suspense and anticipation- now you know what's in there and all- then you start thinking about it and noticing all the subtleties of the place, and it's the cradle itself that starts to become the really scary, creepy part. And the puppets are just that- puppets.

And many people also enjoy recreating newer games using older technology (see: any console homebrew scene). It's a great technical challenge.

No doubt, but whether they manage to stand up for artistic standards and qualities of the original, that's another question.

What are the things that dromed couldn't that do that are present in Thief BS?... I mean DS. :erm:
Obvioulsy the renderer is totally below par - but that is not the point.
What about the "freeform" city sections? Or the evolving city sections? I guess oil flasks could be scripted easily enough, how about climbing gloves? I know the upgrades are possible. Would it be possible to mimick garrett l33t eye effect (though why bother is another question). Is it possible to spawn inifinate guards in dromed? (though if a remake was made better design of each "day" of the city could eliminate the need for such a "feature". Would it be possible to mimick the cradels "past". - these questions are only speculative ofcourse.
What else am i missing?

I think the opportunity here is to reclaim Thief and show off what it could have been if it followed the standards of the originals. Sure, it's not going to have the fancy graphics...who cares, that's not what thief is about. Dromed could pull off the creepiness of the cradle, no problem.

When they do, it's really damn impressive. Like the guy who ported Defender to the Vectrex, or the guy who ported Thrust to the Atari 2600.
