As far as I know DVD region codes only apply to video DVDs - they're just flag to the player (software or hardware) and do not apply to data DVDs.

dvd players can be set to a region, but if you dont bother to set it to any region then it will play any region dvd as default is no region set, although once you set it to a region you cant reset it to region free. as far as I know.
NTSC vhs tapes from america will play on pal video players, but only in black and white, although you used to be able to get dual NTSC/PAL video players, something in the machine could detect the tape format and play the different tape formats.
I suppose if game dvd's became region coded, then people would have computers with more than one dvd player in them, a dvd player for each region.
Although a lot of machines are being changed to blue-ray, and blue-ray game disks might be region coded.

Thanks for all the comments. I was curious about compatability. I knew about movies etc. on VHS and DVD, but, dummy that I am, should have given it more thought. Game installers are DATA files and I should have remembered that.

Da hell theblackman? You're in lake forest, you can just take a drive down to gogamer and pick up your crap! That's awesome, they import quite a few titles.

You obviously did not read the thread. The question was asked and answered, and you may have heard what I said, but I did not say what you heard. And I acknowledged my error in a reply.
I don't have a problem. The people asking for games won't have because as was said it's a DATA disc.
I should have made that connection myself. But the question, although an error in thought processes, was valid in intent.
Imported titles is not my problem, never has been, and never will be. I have over 400 games and by the time I die will probably have nearly as many more.
I've been buying, debugging, and even had a company that sold games, since 1974. The question about DVD regions does not apply to DATA files, and was the result of a lapse in thinking the situation through.
{enter sarcasm mode} thanks for telling me what I knew about games before you were born. That is buy from a reputable company.{/sarcasm}

Wow, way to overreact.
Anyway, I don't have Half-life 2 Episode 2. If anyone doubled up on it by later purchasing Orange Box, I could use it. I am sure we could even work a trade or what have you.
