OTOH, the five other guys I play CSS with now and then are extremely unlikely to move outside their li'l comfort zone.
You say that like it's a bad thing. If you are bored shitless by a game that you have played for a while, I doubt that better graphics will fix that issue up.
TTK12G3 on 14/8/2011 at 15:25
I see that happening.

Nah, it's not a bad thing. We have other games we play, but they're all military-themed shooters. It gets mad boring for me, but it's not a problem for anyone else. I even bought Frozen Synapse as a midway point kind of game (between a mil-shooter and a tactical game) and offered a free key to other players, but no bites, and one guy who never pays for anything is trying to figure out how to torrent and crack it.
Sigh. But they're my friends.

Here's an article from (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/15/counter-strike-go/) Rock, Paper Shotgun
So apparently the game is supposed to be "along side CSS and CS 1.6" rather than replace it. They also claim it is NOT built from the CSS code, but rather from an updated version of Source (of course, 'cause valve apparently doesn't want to make a new engine any time soon.) Also interesting is that molotovs will be 850 bucks. Does seem pricey, but considering how powerful/useful they are, it makes sense in a game kind of way.

(

It's pre-alpha at the moment, so it should go without saying to not take every little detail as gospel of what the finished game will be like.

It's based on the Portal 2 build of Source.
Hidden Path, of Defence Grid fame, are the developer. The aren't novices to Counter-Strike, most recently they ported CSS to the Orange Box engine and added a lot of features like achievements and kill cam. Their current constantly-in-development CSS Beta is very community driven, with a lot of player-requested fixes (eg outstanding map exploits) and tweaks.

I heard about them, but I didn't realize they were behind the beta. I'm also aware of the achievements, I was glad that they added those. Cool stuff.
EvaUnit02 on 29/8/2011 at 19:42
The following is either pre-alpha or alpha footage. The game looks largely unchanged, aside from some things a graphical upgrade and things from modern FPSes like CoD-esque ranking, challenges, etc. (Also huge-arse fonts like Portal 2)
There's gonna be PC-Mac-PS3 cross-platform play and kb+m support for the PS3 version. (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axcSrt7cBGc) This interview seems to
suggest that the console versions
might not have auto-aim.
New equipment like the molotov cocktail and decoy grenade sound like they'll add further tactical depth to the game.

So it's basically nothing new, just a graphical update with cross-platform play and a few extra weapons.
I am disappoint.
Yakoob on 29/8/2011 at 20:16
Meh, it's CS, this game will play exactly the same two decades from now.
