I just read that article. My god, what would we have done if it had been a VR setting. Crazy...

I remember when I played Cradle first time.
It was 2 AM and I had played all other missions without even going to bathroom. I had like played it for 6 hours without a break. (yes, im a freak i know it :erg: ) Anyway, I had no lights on and brightness level was so dark you could barely see anything. I had NO idea how scary this level was, because there were no scary levels before Cradle. (well except abysmal gale was little scary, but nothing compared to TDP levels) Anyway, I got inside the Cradle and went to attic door. I was like: "Right......... Maybe I'll continue tomorrow." :wot:
Cradle is the most scariest level I have ever seen in any game. It is really well made though. :thumb:

this is the scariest missions for any game ive ever played, this kept me on the edge of my seat and i had to stop playing twice cuz it was so fu(k!n creapy. Ive never been this scared in my life and I will never play this mission again, if you have played it you know what im talkin about, if you havent, i wouldnt except during they day, cuz you will mostlikely have really scary nightmares cuz i did, and i rarely dream. Still the creators of this are amazing and they have balls to make somthing this messed in a thief game but amen to them. Also the zombies in TDS are alot less scary than in TMA, maybe it cuz you can actually see the zombies in light in TDS and with good resolution. For The ending
I just poped out at the table of guys, ran away, droped a oil flask on the ground so they all started to chace me and fell on their a*ses, and ran past n jumped out the window.
Scariest mission ever
But i was empressed how it never ended and kept you wanted to play yet turn off the comp. many props for the creators:thumb: :thumb:

Yeah well I have managed to play through the cradle. But man outcluding thief:DP "return to the cathedral" There is no single game, or map that has scared me at totally as this level. I was on edge of my nerves during whole time I played this map.
Anyway I have to say that even hammer haunt are some scary, they ain't anything compared to puppets (or how you want to call those inmates)
Anyway I had some beforehand knowledge of these but not a single idea where they are hiding, so I was going all around with dagger ready and spend more than lot time sitting in shadows, waiting for puppet to return into sight range (flickering lights).
Anyway I spend nearly my entire arsenal there, so I was quite "out of ammo".
But funniest part was after the mission, when you were walking with ghost of lauryl and not even city watch guards were interested to bother you since they are freaked by the ghost (except undead).
It was fun to see when hammerite shouts "builder shield me" and is terrified by the ghost :D
Anyway I have to say that this mission is something like you won't neer forger, but for my luck I got high treshold for nightmares nowdays

As has been said before, its the stuff nightmares are made of. The first time I played it I got to the inner cradle and had to stop playing thief for a little while. I was almost glad when my comp crashed and the hard disc was wiped so that I didnt have to put myself through that torture again. Eventually I got back to the cradle (this time I was a far better thief, only killed when neccesary and found a lot more loot) and played through it. It made no difference that Id been there before, it was still scary as hell. Heck, i dont know why I tried playing through it again, I should have learned my lesson the first time!

I was just wondering... was anybody else reminded of House on Haunted Hill (the newer one rather than the older one). I mean, that film wasn't exactly scary (though I'll admit I enjoyed it) but I saw quite a few likenesses between that and the Cradle.

It's just the whole old-insaneasylums-where-horrific-experiments-were-made-becomes-haunted story. They've been used a lot in movies to create uneasiness. The place used for some stock footage and a couple scenes in that movie (which was an old supposedly haunted insaneasylum) was so creepy that all but a handful of people (less than 12) would go down to do the filming. The thing that makes the cradle so much worse is that it was also an orphanage with neglected children at the same time with the two having almost full access to each other. It's like Garrett said "If there's a way to cram more misery in a place.... I can't think of a way."

I started playing T3 again for giggles and grins. The fun ended when I looked up at that tower at the beginning of the scenario. I have only one thing to say... Mommy...

I think it said somewhere in the .pdf interview that House on Haunted Hill did help the creative process for the cradle.
