Cradle. Dear God... - by mol

Well last night I managed to get through the cradle on expert without taking any breaks. Even managed 100% loot! :D I did it the proper way - in the dark with headphones on. I was pretty nervous at first :erm: But I took a lot of time over the puppets, making sure they didn't see me before I took them out. Mines and fire arrows, although noisy, worked well. I'd plant a mine on one of its patrol routes and when it was recoiling from the explosion I'd jump out and pop it with a couple of fire arrows. Never stood a chance.
I was caught by surprise one time when I was taking one out and another came up behind me (which I was half expecting because of the noise I was making). Made me jump though but I got 'em with flash bombs :cheeky:
Once I realised there were none left I felt considerably more relaxed. I even decided not to push the quickload button when I got caught by a guard and went to find another toy instead. Still loved every second though! :thumb:

Most excellent, Bandit! And on expert, no less! Kudos, you very brave person!

For me one of the most scary parts is when there's a locked door. I opened it up and the creepy resident guy was on the other side looking right at me! So scared I fell off my chair! Funnily enough he didn't actually see me; he just turned around. Geuss the level had such a good atmosphere I almost thought falling off the chair would make him here me!
Another thing, even when those things are flashbombed and fire-arrowed to pieces, their bodies still won't go away. When I took one out, he was in a pivotal doorway. I knew he was dead, but didn't dare walk over him for fear of a repeat on what happens last time I tried that. In the end I took the long way round, because there was no way I was walking over the thing...

I know exactly the door you mean. I've never even opened it though. Never had the nerve :erg:

Me either! I just knew there were awful, terrible things waiting to kill me behind that door.

Okay, I'm scared... I haven't gotten to this level yet. You people are making me really nervous!

My little brother who is only 9 played this level as a dare heres what he thought:
i didn't poop my pants like others, and it was hardly scary apart from the bit in the bedroom chambers and what happened there (don't blame me) it was scary but i must tell you this; i heard lots of noises (but they weren't that scary) and i quit because the chair outside the room (and the beds, other stuff in the chambers too) were scaring me because my bro hadn't told me there were no enemies there until i quit, and i thought some would jump out at me.:sly: mwuahhahahaha!

Scythuz I'm telling your mom!
Sorry Kovitlac. We probably should have been using spoilers warnings, but I've got a feeling you would have highlighted them & read them anyhow. The best way to approach this is just forge ahead & play the Cradle - regardless of what you've read here.
Good luck & it was nice almost knowing you. :ebil:

Har har. The Cradle. That's my favorite mission on TDS. It reminds me a lot of House on Haunted Hill or Hell House or whatever that was in the asylum. Twitching lights and everything. Now I can play it with just a few jumps, but the first time, I almost had a heart attack. I had to stop playing after a few minutes.
By the way, does anyone know what the reversed voices are saying on the ambient music track?

I didn't read the spoilers. I'm scared, but I have a couple walkthroughs I glance at when I get lost, so (hopefully!) they'll warn me...
Maybe it helps if you've played horror games before. I play Fatal Frame (1 and 2) quite a bit, and those are quite freaky:).
