And NO, it will not involve butt-slapping Garrett, so there.

Here's my little story, which involves that goddamn seclusion chamber. Once I got up there (somewhat freaked out by that maniacal laughter) I realized that there's no elevator button up there. So, what was my first thought? "Big deal! I'll just reload or something"? No. My first thought was: "Fuck! How I'm gonna get outta here!!" Now, I must say I get immersed pretty easily, but geez... that was a bit off.

Kinda scary isn't it? I find myself so immersed that I'm hushing anyone (including my cats & dogs) that walks into the PC room while I'm playing. I pretty much did the same thing as you, Pitch. Only I just sat there saying, 'Oh maaaaannn, oh maaaannnn' (with a Midwestern twang), like I was actually stuck there, not my character.

By the way, is that hanging doll thing in the Seclusion chamber ever explained? At first I thought it might be King No One's 'Toy' but it isn't. In fact, his is the only one not in his cell - it's located in the first treatment room.
Still, it was worth going up there for the creepiness. And the lovely silver bracelet by the window :)

I was playing the Cradle for about the fourth time. I was showing my yonger friend the level, and he insisted that it wouldn't be scary. We played the level on the PC in the Attic, with the trapdoor shut and all the lights off. We had two sets of headphones to block out any noises from downstairs.
He was a bit freaked out at the end of the Outer Cradle, but the Inner part REALLY got to him. I didn't tell him anything at all about the Zombies, and he was so scared when I walked over a dead one, even though I knew it couldn't get up. (Okay I know I'm evil but someone else HAD to understand what I went through the first time I played it...)
Of course this was nothing compared to the time we went into the morgue. I knew there were two zombies down there; one 'asleep' and another next to the giant furnace. However, I had no idea that the one by the furnace patrolled up to where the lift was. So I hid in the lift, checked the lights; no flashing. So then I went to walk down the spiral-type staircase on my left and the bloody thing roars and charges out of the shadows! Taff we jumped back two meters! We stopped playing immediately after that, and he admitted it was 'kinda' scary. Whatever.... :tsktsk:
In a totally unrelated matter, what do you have to do for it to say 'member' on the left instead of 'new member?' I thought it was to do with time but I've seen a 'new members who registered in October 2005 and a member who registered in January 2006! Doesn't really matter I'm just curious...

That mostly depends on posts I believe.

I think you need to have posted at least 30 (or is it 35?) times. It's stated somewhere (try searching). :D

Flashbombs? Check.
Fire arrows? Check.
Holy Water? Check.
And I started of on my first venture into the cradle ...
I read quite a bit of (mostly plot) spoilers into TDS before I finally got it last month, so I know it was going to be an undead mission. But I had to admit, it was still an eerie experience that left a shadow on my mind ...
I actually started playing at ~1 am with lights off (I find that it seems easier to focus on the game visual and sound this way) I didn't know that there was nothing threatening in the outer cradle so I took my time sneaking around, watching and listening intently for potential threats before I move into new areas. I actually dreaded replacing the fuse becuase I saw the extensive shadows as Garrett's shield in the dreary place more than ever.
When I finally ventured into the Inner Cradle, I was generally very careful and so I only got surprised twice by the Inmates, once at the morgue by the Inmate lying down (thought it was a dead body), the other by the Inmate locked in its cell. I hate the cells section the most, the corridors are so well lit; I would start picking a lock then something at the back of my mind will scream and I would stop to look around before I continue ...
After I got throught the Cradle, I went and dug up articles on it and read about the dark and terrible background story. The Cradle was the only mission I managed to get 100% loot by myself, which indirectly show how unnerved I am that I had to play so carefully for once.
I for one, can't bear to play this mission during the daytime. I had to play it in the wee hours with lights off. This reduces other distractions and allows me to immerse myself more fully into the atmosphere.

It is much easier to focus on the visuals with the lights off. Due to how dark the Thief games are in general, it's much, MUCH easier to play them in actual darkness.
By the way, I'm looking for information on a couple of the inmates from White Hall. I wasn't able to find much info on a couple of them, and it's important for my Thief 3 Encyclopedia. If anyone could help me with info on the occupants of the following cells, I'd be grateful -
Cell 4
Cell 5
Cell 8
Cell 9
I only have basic information on those cells (from the front desk book). The rest I have much more detailed info on from 'Patient Reports', but I wasn't able to find any for those cells. Help?
