Cradle. Dear God... - by mol

I think the sword just doesn't seem like a practical weapon for a thief. A knight, yes, but not someone who breaks into mansions and pick pockets. Ecspecially when the game is about staying hidden - not killing. A huge shining sword would also be very easy to see as opposed to a small , concealable dagger.

A point here, why doesnt Garrett paint his dagger black to avoid that tell-tale glint in the firelight?

I miss my sword ...
Why must they give Garrett a toothpick of a dagger? With the sword in Thief 1/2 a decent fencer stands a good chance of going toe-to-toe with a guard or zombie. You can't parry for your life with the dagger ... though it was fun to backstab the asylum staff ghosts with it ...
Because Garrett IS NOT A FIGHTER. He's a THIEF. In and out with no trouble.
Try reading the series about Parker by Richard Stark. The story of a PRO, like Garrett is supposed to be.

The phrase "ghosting" seems to fit best here

Hello! I've just encountered my first dead guy in the Cradle.
You know what, System Shock 2 didn't scare me much, and recent replays of Clive Barker's Undying and Silent Hill 2 didn't scare me a fraction as much as they did two years ago... But this level leaves me wishing there was some sort of Cradle-support group I could join. :(
And it is interesting how both, the Cradle and Silent Hill 2, used a uniquely long stretch of isolation, so that it became very much like some sort of "special psychology-treatment" on their players. ;)
And
then that very subtle use of normal and abnormal background sounds, within the surroundings of the Cradle, will start to
really mess with you, very nicely! :thumb:
(So, could we have some more Cradle-like FEAR maps for T3, please?) :ebil:

Also makes me think of the Fatal Frame series... scariest games ever;)

The cradle will be the death of me if i'm not careful...and I don't think i can find anymore special loot items...i need 1 more, got the gravecourt red...and, by chance, I would say that they're all in the present, eh? Already goin through as patient no.2 (heheh, rhymes) so...if I have to go again, ring the asylum and tell them a new patient will be ready to be taken away in about 2 hours...

I started playing the DS through again, for the second time (only, I've been doing a lot of fan missions lately). I've just returned to the Keeper library after
Caduca's murder
and the whole enforcer show, and have actually started playing more slowly because I've just realized I've got to go back to the cradle soon... :p There wasn't a way to skip a level in the Xbox version, was there? I did find the level very well made, but hated being there and don't want to go through it again if I have a choice. :cheeky: (nevertheless I still think it's probably one of my most memorable gaming experiences. It's been almost two years since I last played it and I can still remember bits of it very vividly...)

Its an experience you should feel once, and once only. Too much scare can seriously mess with you.

(SmallFish, can you have multiple save-games on your XBox and how many?)
. . . Here is what I am doing about special replays of missions . . .
I will always save one game, at the very beginning, before any real action.
And then I use that Quick Save as my "running game" within that mission.
(And when I am very near the end, I will save-over that Quick Save.)
And that will become my "restart save-game" for the very next mission.
And then, from that mission to starting-up the next mission,
I can nicely decide and change the level of game-play, also. :thumb:
So, for your "restart save-game" of the "ShaleBridge Cradle Mission"
I would say that you need one for the prior "Audale Mission". And this will be long after Inspector Drept talks about the Hag at his workshop and just before leaving the Old Quarter, for your "ShaleBridge Cradle" start.
