Cradle. Dear God... - by mol

How the majority of TTLG users got incredibly frightened when playing Robbing the Cradle is amongst the biggest video game mysteries for me in my life.
Robbing the Cradle was the WORST mission in the entire game for me. There wasn't any detail or event or sighting in the mission that gave me any sort of spooks at all. See, before I bought T:DS I was scouring through the forum and reading up about the extreme hype of about this mission and other gaming magazines. I had high expectations because of this hype and thought I was in for a great experience of something of Life of the Part in T2 quality or more specifically something of at least the superior quality of Return to the Cathedral in T2. The build-up towards the mission was obvious, and when reading "Robbing the Cradle" as the mission title in the briefing, I knew it was it. So to prepare for the experience I dimmed the lights, played alone and at midnight on a Saturday. When playing, I was extremely disappointed. There was nothing in the mission that "caused the skin off of my skull to jump off" or "make my heart skip a beat". (posts in this thread)
I'll admit the ambience was well-done and provided a bit of atmosphere, but the whole time other then the "residents" I was expecting "substance". Something like seeing a reflection in a mirror of something, or something to pass by quickly, but it all seemed to be ambience and darkness. I also liked how the mission almost seemed monochromatic, and how Garret's 3D model was the only real "color" (hehehe...). But overall, it was a major disappointment. The objectives in the game were too difficult to complete which detered from any atmosphere, and I was trying my hardest to get the boring mission over with. The residents were a huge laugh I must say, and trudge around like any other citizien among the streets.
And for those wondering, no I am not crazy. I do have emotions, in fact I'm overlysensitive. A prime example for me of spookiness is Return to the Cathedral in T1. The ambience there was terrifying and the chants of the undead were spine-tingling, I simply had to complete the mission in the bright daylight, I just couldn't finish it during the night. And I'll say, I was more creeped out playing the Pagan Sanctuary mission in DS because of the "culture shock". You knew you were in foreign territory and architecture and people, and I felt a more "fear of the unknown there". Overall, Robbing the Cradle was the most boring and uninteresting mission in the game. I still keep thinking that maybe something is wrong with me, because of all these hundreds of people getting terrified and me having a bad experience.

(NightFalcon, it doesn't bother me, either.)
But I do appreciate the Cradle's psych-fear of isolation and the "unknown".
Plus the whole place simply fits a ghosting thieve's attitude, to me. :thumb:
(So, are you ready for my little "killer question" that can actually become a lot of fun and turn into a lot of interesting stuff, if you take it seriously?)
"What would you add to the Cradle, specifically?"
(I want one Keeper Enforcer, to just cause some random events, hopefully?)

hi there, I am currently playing thief ds for teh first time and am stuck right now.
I seem to be unable to find the "energy cell" that I need to "put on the light" and open the door.
sry, I know my english fails abit - but after playing th first part of that mission Im allready totally freaked out and..not having resisted the spoiler warnings...I dont even want to play the second part :P
Can somebody describe whee to find that..well its not an energy cel I guess. But I do not know the english name for it.
Does somebody understand what I am trying to ask for?

Where are you from?
Well, the thing I think you're trying to find (I guess)
is the fuse in the attic (right beneath the ceiling, highest point in the Outer Cradle...just in case). You have to replace the old one in the cellar with this one.
Well, I guess I would have less respect for the Cradle if I heared
"You disrupt my mission! Boom!" when entering the White Hall. Nevertheless, could someone please give a comment to my "grammatical" question the page before...?

By the way: Do you say it or she? The German translation for cradle is a feminine word, so everytime you talk about the Cradle you cannot leave the thought that the Cradle is feminine.
... BC, attaching "female/male identities" is kind of a funny thing in English.
(Normally, "romance languages" like Italian, French and Spanish have these identities as a part of the language, whether you like that or not.)
But English allows the user to freely add that identity, if they wish to.
Males do it, almost as a normal custom, to their favorite car, boat or whatever. (But, I do not think that many males would ever call their baby cradle a "she", but I could be wrong?)
(Nope and sorry, BikerDude, that was WAY "Off Topic")
Btw, I actual created that Cradle "door banging" sound, in a Postal2AW map, with a zombie repeatly trying to get through a door and then finally breaking through its wooden "door stop". (And it sounded great in the dark, folks!) :ebil: So, here is some thanks to our brillant T3 Cradle-designers! :thumb:

And let me amend my earlier idea. . .
"I want a
silent Keeper Enforcer, to just cause some random events." (Or can you make a Puppet, into a renegade character, who might fight with other Puppets and then lose after a few wins?)

Oh, that's interesting. I remember Tori Amos calling her Austrian grand piano "she"...and her songs, too, but that girl is odd in many ways. Still...what gender do you think the Cradle has?
