"It can creep up inside you and consume you" - "it" refers to the Cradle. The Cradle is in you. This mission will change you.
"A disease of the mind, it can control you
It's too close for comfort" - The Cradle is not so comfortable, you know.
"Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder" - Here The City is mentioned. ;)
"Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered" - Yes, the Cradle is confusing. Especially when you travel in the past to solve ghost missions.
"Your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is light" - When you first enter the Cradle you wish to be more light to see if something is hiding in the dark corners. But when you start the generator you wish for the darkness to return because now you are more vulnerable.
"Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight?" - Yes, the Cradle is scary. Don't you think?
"Disturbia, ain't used to what you like" - Yes, this mission is quite different from the others.
"Disturbia, disturbia" - All ambient sounds and visual effects.
"Release me from this curse I'm in
Trying to maintain but I'm struggling" - The Cradle remembers you now. You cannot escape. :p

I think what you find there is basically a gramophone, which requires one of those old timey manually indented circular things to play music.

Actually, Lovecraftian, it's called a Mechanist viktrola, and the devs admitted it was a continuity error.
From HHdancerfile: "Entry Two: Have decided to allow the monthly dance recitals
subject performs for the children in the Lobotomy Theater. She uses that old Mechanist viktrola of hers. However, these recitals should be supervised. DS"
Plus 7 viktrolas played sound back, not just recorded, in TMA, and six in TDS.:p
