Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or has any ideas why it's happening.
I have Thief:Gold installed, with TFix and the Thief HD Texture Mod installed. Now, whenever I come across spiders, big or small, it crashes my game. It doesn't crash reliably for any one sound or animation, but crash to desktop it does, and frequently.
I've tried running without the HD mod, still crashes. I tried installed new sound files with the SoundFX Enhancement mod, sounds better, but still crashes like a ZX Spectrum.
The only thing I've found works so far has been disabling my sound card, killing all the spiders, re-enabling it and carrying on the game. A less than ideal solution.
Sound card is a Xonar D2X if that is of any use. Can't get OpenAL (or the universal version) to work either, that too causes crashes to desktop.
Open to any ideas and suggestions.

post your thief.log and crash.dmp (compress with 7zip or similar), both are in your Thief folder.

Well that was a duh moment from me, in three days not once did I think to look at the crash log -.-
Found the problem. ASUS sound cards have something called "GX", think poor man's EAX simulator. Known to cause many issues with EAX games.
Since disabling it (it's the tiniest of tiny button on the Xonar Control Panel!) I haven't had a single crash.
Thanks for the idea!
