Eric Brosius' sound design for Thief is a subject of wonder and fascination to me. Out of all the creative mediums in design, the process of creating new sounds still seems the most mystical to me. I know the very basics of sound synthesis, but still I cannot imagine how one can create sounds with such a specific aura, as ones in Thief, with such an abstract "canvas". So, does anyone perhaps know anything of Eric's creative process, like what kind of synths did he use? Or just know of any other synth that could be programmed to produce something similar. Are there any specific techniques I should read about, perhaps? Let me know.

Look into what Dark Ambient musicians use, it's the closest I've found, especially Dark Drone.

That is a good lead, thank you. The first one especially sounds quite similar to Thief.
