Just don't look for any serious gameplay depth here for even the Bioshock is a monster of incomprehensible complexity compared to this game.
You gotta be kidding me.

It's true that Bioshock is much more complex than Cryostasis, in terms of game mechanics.

Would it be possible to finish this game at 10-15 fps (at combat) without major annoyance? I mean, I checked out the first few minutes, and I can manage 1on1 fights, but if it gets a lot more intense later, then this performance won't be enough.

Just finished it.
I guess the worst thing about Cryostasis is that it's called action-horror-survival whatever FPS. It's not really. It's more of an adventure game - think several first levels of Half Life, where you mostly walk and solve simple puzzles, and the occassional easy fight. Most of Cryostasis is like that. Wandering through frozen, empty rooms, saving people with the Mental Echo and occassional fight. And the combat is very un-FPSish - despite the fact that main character carries impressive arsenal(three melee weapons and five firearms), everything feels clunky and sluggish, magazines are small and reloading takes forever. Which I guess is good considering the hero is a meteorologist with ten layers of clothes on him.
The survival aspect is lacking too - because health is warmth and so warm things(pipes, fires, lights, etc.) replenish it, it's pretty much infinite. Ammo is plentiful as well.
The story was nice till credits ended, because then a quote appears which pretty much forces on you author's view on the whole thing. Leaves a bad aftertaste if you're a society reject like me.
And finally, to address Malleus' question: The game really can tax your PC, mostly because it doesn't have multicore support. So forget about playing it if you have minimum specs or anything like that.

Yeah I just finished it, my thought are in the "What are you playing?" thread, and I couldn't tweak the performance in any significant way, bar turning everything to low. It's not a fast paced game so I just got the options to a balance between graphical fidelity and speed (about the 30 fps). The big problem with it is the memory leaks that can happen after a while of playing the game.
Koki on 12/6/2009 at 14:42
Do they? I crashed only once, when I set textures to something like "Godly" and ran out of memory during a level load.

They didn't happen all the time but I certainly had some situations where the game would slow down and get worse with each reload and restarting was the only solution.

I played through the demo most of the way (I think. Can't get past a time bit with some dogs and haven't bothered trying for a while) and I don't really feel like continuing on to the full thing.
Someone on RPS said it was fairly repetitive. At a certain point playing the demo I think I saw what they were talking about. You do a room one way, fight something, find a corpse, solve its problem and then the room changes and you do the room again or move on.
It got old pretty quick. It's a pity since the atmosphere is awesome; the enemies are nice and creepy and I love the melting ice everywhere. The time thing is potentially very cool as well but it doesn't sound like they got the most out of it (although what I'd consider as it being used to the fullest would be Primerish; hard to do and hard to play.)

It is repetitive and the combat isn't that great in the first place either (these problems are at their worst in the third quarter of the game) but the atmosphere is strong and the story well told with some interesting themes that are actually explored in a fairly intelligent way. The last quarter of the game, where all the pieces of the story started coming together, was excellent and contained moments that really moved me. It is a pity that the gameplay isn't as excellent as the narrative but I would still strongly recommend Cryostasis for anyone looking for an immersive, plot driven experience.
