Might be a long shot asking, but has anyone experienced or heard somewhere if the game runs smoother on dx10 than dx9 now that 1.1 patch is out?

i agree eva. so far this game amazes me. not so with gameplay and inventiveness but with mood, style and atmosphere. another russian gem.
gotta catch up, I paused 'cause I had to finish prototype before returning it.
which was mindless fun, I'll get it when it's cheap.
does the gamersgate have activation limits ? 'cause then I could install it on my win7 partition and see how dx10 and dx9 compare ?!

Except it's not Russian... too.

sorry
It was developed in the Ukraine, not Russia. Stalker was Ukrainian-developed as well.

I already addressed this earlier in the thread.

Cryostasis is DRM free, full stop.

Q : Does Cryostasis use secuROM DRM? are there a limited number of installations? A : No DRM whatsoever. We are tired of being forced to put in a system that stops pirates for about a day but stops users from having fun all the time.
DRM on Gamersgate varies on a game by game basis, depending on the publisher.

Holy crap, I was *sure* it had SecuROM.
Guess I have to go and buy it now :(

Oh my God, the performance of this game is SO much better with a dedicated PPU (PhysX processing being off-loaded from my new GTX275 to my old 9800GT). It now runs at ~25-45fps with everything maxed out @ 1680x1050 (AF+AA turned off though).
The PhysX effects (especially of the water) look terrific and really add to the immersion. IMO.

Resurrecting an old thread to say that this game is worth the buy. I found the first couple of levels to be rather dull, but after the 4th or so the style of the game really starts to come into play. It's isolation, cold, paranoia, and desperation, conveyed through the plot as well as the gameplay. The story really doesn't become cohesive until right near the end, but the game's ending is excellent so long as you understand the symbolism.
With the patch, the atmosphere is improved through the addition of debris and icicles, and the game ran much better for me.
The levels are sufficiently varied and interesting in that some are completely free of enemies while others are packed with them, keeping you on edge, although you do have to pull a LOT of levers and press a LOT of buttons. The game uses some neat tricks to shock the player, the mental echoes and flashbacks are an interesting way of conveying the story, and the game has a very artistic feel about it.
That said, it is buggy, and by 2/3 of the way through the game I had all the weapons and really used only two of them (with a third as a fallback, although I always had plenty of ammo)- but at that point the story was beginning to really make sense and I was fighting some of the more interesting enemies so I didn't mind.
I don't see it having that much replay value, except perhaps to see the flashbacks and mental echoes in the context of knowing the story, but it took me long enough so I feel it was a good buy and would recommend it to others.

I "evaluated" it and promptly deleted it upon completion
