Holy crap, I was *sure* it had SecuROM.
Guess I have to go and buy it now :(
I'm pretty sure DRM-free is Aspyr's thing now. None of the games they've put out through 1C use any copy protection whatsoever.
I really need to get a couple days off of work so I can play it. I've had it installed for like 4 months now, and haven't finished the first sequence.

the more Cryostatis I played, the more I liked it. The last few levels I did in one go, I couldn't bear not knowing how it goes down. Story-wise it really "touched" me, more so than games with elaborate CGI character animation. the context and environment really made those stories of the last hours of the ship become real.

In a surprising move from such a rubbish institution that is Gamespot, Cryostasis won (
http://www.gamespot.com/best-of/special-achievement/index.html?page=3) Best Story of 2009 (a platform neutral award). I'm glad that the game's terrific narrative managed to get some attention from the mainstream press, it's very deserving of it.
The comments are amusing, mostly consisting of stuff along the lines of "OMG, DRAGON AGE/MODERN WARFARE 2/UNCHARTED 2 HAD THE BEST STORIES, WHAT ARE GS SMOKING!!!!1111". Heh, Bioware the thought of Bioware writing anything more than an adequate story.
Cryostasis was also nominated for Most Surprisingly Good Game, Best Sound Design and Best Game Nobody Played.

That's cool (:)). Thumbs up for the win (and the nominations too).:thumb:

Congrats to the game. I am hoping to get to play it this coming calendar year.

Has anyone had any stability issues in later levels? It seems to have problems with loading models and such and pauses for brief moments sometimes. Auto-saves take a good couple of seconds to complete too. I've checked around to see if there's any info about this, but haven't found much. I'm thinking that I hit over a bug or something more evil, since up to a point it worked flawlessly.
Anyway, I'm glad it received some attention and publicity. Story-wise it's really a tasty treat, even if it does take a bit of brain to understand what's going on.
Oh and... have a nice frosty chilled Christmas guys. :)

I will play devil's advocate here, though, and state that Every Bioware game I've played so far had a good story not so much in the overall stories(largely generic) but in the specific execution. For example, Darth Malak may have a generic background and motivation, but he comes across as a fairly menacing enemy.

whatever you say

Playing Dragon Age finally. I thought the game would be a breeze after the Endar Spire and Taris levels, but it got significantly harder after I met Bastilla and had my Jedi Training on Dantooine. Still a few errands to run on Dantooine, although I've already visited the Ebon Hawk (just don't have many planets I can fly to yet). Great game.

I have a question about this game. I found it on Gamersgate for $6.79 so figured I'd go for it. I DL'd the demo for it quite a while ago and it ran like crap on my older system which is an AMD dual core processor 2.3 along with 3 gigs of ram and an 8600GT on Vista 32 bit.
Is the full game better optimized than the demo? And also, there is a patch for it, but when I Googled it was told that unless you have a pretty beefy system and newer GPU to NOT dl it. The strange part, it's supposed to add more of nvidias physx stuff but, also improve performance.
I would think I shouldn't DL it, but what do you guys think that have played the game? Also any tweak tips for it?

From my experience, the demo runs a hundred times worse than the full game. It was completely unplayable for me. So it's not really an indication.
The patch improves overall performance. I was afraid of it first when I read the warning (I have a low end system), but it made the game run better all in all. Especially since it fixes some memory leaks which cause huge performance drops. So yes, if you get the game, definitely apply the patch.
Tweaking involves setting everything to low. :) But don't worry, it looks good on all settings. If you still need performance, you may modify the video settings in the config.cfg (in the main folder), and the init.cfg (/data/scripts). In the init.cfg, the settings that gave me a huge performance boost were the 'g.broken_icicles_count = ', the 'p.maxfluidwater = ', 'p.maxfluidsparks = ', 'p.maxfluidsparksblue = ', 'p.maxfluidicicles = ', and 'p.maxfluidbulletshells = '. Set these to some atrociously low number (~10).
Anyway I had a P4 Prescott 3,0GHz, 2GB RAM, x1950pro AGP 512MB rig and everything set to low, and it was 13-20 fps most of the time, in some battles it went down to 5. You should have a lot more than that on your PC.
