I got it even cheaper than that actually, it was 3€ on Eurogamer's Get Games service a few days ago. :)

I used some mod that got rid of all the random junk lying around and it improved performance a lot. I can't find the damn thing on the 1c forums now.
Edit: Removed last part, mod is for different game, damn it.
Edit 2: It helps that I linked it on this very goddamn page: (

Koki, thanks for the link: I suspected as much but had difficulty believing that a game released in 2010 wouldn't offer proper widescreen report (particularly since this is meant for high-end PCs - who owns a high-end gaming PC and not a widescreen monitor?). But yeah, I'm still waiting for a later PC with an Nvidia card - this thing CHUGS on my ATI card, which can run everything else no problem.

It doesn't run very well on my super high-end PC
A big part of this is it doesn't use multi-cores and another thing is the fact that the general sluggishness of movement might even be by design. Having recently built a new machine, I've been replaying this little gem and while I've got everything maxed out with a consistent framerate, the controls still feel laboured. Normally that's a pain in the arse but I think it actually works in this case; it accentuates the cold atmosphere and the fact you're wearing several layers of thick clothing.
Certainly a change of pace from the previous game I was replaying on my new rig,
Crysis :p

Here's a weird thing. For some reason this game occured to me recently and I went to see what the price was. Turns out it's not for sale anymore anywhere (well, barring ignorance/stupidity). Gone from steam, gamers gate, gog, greenman, amazon. There's a few physical copies still around, but who can be arsed there.
Very strange. It's not that old. Sure it didn't do that great, but, what? is it really taking up so much space on these services? I don't think I've heard of this happening to a reasonably mainstream game with no real controversy attached in this digital distro age before.

It must be some contractual thing, I don't think they'd remove something from multiple services at roughly the same time just because it "isn't doing that great". Weird as hell, though.
Anyway, if you wish to play the game, I can give you access to my Groupees account - I have a downloadable DRM free version there.

Yes, I'm sure it's not the first time it's happened (it's fun looking at lists like that to remember that there's this whole world of games that I, and a lot of the press, pay no attention to. There's big budget high concept things, and there's groovy little indies scrabbling for fame and originality. In between there's this vast lost of stuff that's all puzzle games and card games and Barbie horse collecting games, cheap strategy games, educational games and god knows what else)

That's awful good of you. Is that sort of thing legit to do? Don't break any rules on my behalf if not.

Haven't thought of that. Probably not. Whatever, the offer still stands. :)
