Well since he said demo I assumed he was talking about the multiplayer.
So you're saying it's like CoD because there are ranks?
Ok.
On the topic of ranks in multiplayer games: I hate that shit. Especially in Red Dead Redemption. When you're playing as a noob and get the drop on some lvl60 dude, you might
think you're about to get an easy kill, but NOPE! You start shooting the guy in the back, he notices something is buzzing at him from behind(is that a fly?). Then he turns around and fires one bullet at you. You die. He just keeps on running like nothing's happened. If someone has played the game long enough to attain lvl60 he's already much better at the game than everyone who hasn't played it for that long. That he should get superpowered weapons and stats as well is just fucking crazy. It's like a handicap-system, but in reverse. Make it easier for the seasoned players and harder for the noobs.
Really, who thinks this shit is a good idea?
I can't say that it bothered me in the Crysis 2 demo though, but maybe that's because everyone was a noob at it when I played it some weeks ago.

The entire gameplay model is modeled after CoD. You spawn with weapons of your choice, the map is small and there are few players but the weapons are powerful, the respawn timer is so short you barely have enough time to watch the killcam. There are perks and killstreaks.

I bought it yesterday, I was sick of having nothing new and fresh to play. So I purchased it, and played crysis while it downloaded. Turns out that was a bad idea, because the 2 games control nothing alike.
The "feel" of the game is a bit clunky until you get the hang of it, and the tutorial aspect of the first little bit was frustrating as hell (armor mode is the last thing to be unlocked), I nearly ragequit in the first 10 minutes of the game. But once i made it through and realized that armor mode was not just automatically on all the time it made a bit more sense and I've gotten quite used to the controls.
I'm not happy about the sprint function using suit powers, I think there should be a normal sprint and a suit-powered sprint, it's really annoying if you want to run somewhere and then when you get there you're left defenseless because you have no suit energy.
Any pissing and moaning you have done about the engine being a resource hog and being unable to run it in normal modern hardware... I'lll say that with eyefinity enabled at a resolution of 5040x 1050 it runs on "extreme" settings better than crysis did on "high", at least on my machine.
So far the gameplay is quite a bit different. Crysis was in no way as open-ended as FarCry was, and this is a little bit less so, but in a different way. You tend to get arenas that you have several different options in, usually with a chance to survey beforehand and plan your attack, i've only played it for a couple hours though so I wonder if it's going to get larger and more sandbox-y.
You're also less of a tank than you were in crysis. They've optimized the game play to make you more effective as a guerilla than a balls to the wall FPS hero. I've read lots of people complaining that Crysis was a stealth-cheater game and that people abused the stealth function, but in crysis2 it think without a smart use of stealth you're just cannon fodder.
All things considered I'm having fun, and the aesthetic touches are great.
Also.. Soundtrack is phenominal, a good variation on the traditional military shooter/movie score in the Gregson-Williams vein that we've all learned to hate. They've kept some aspects of it while taking it in new directions I haven't heard done before. I really like it.

I'm a few hours in, and my feelings are about the same. Though still a medium-easy game so far, I'm finding it a little harder than Crysis, which is a good thing. I like that you have to leave armor mode to recharge your suit, and you can't just go prone and hide in the bushes to heal during a firefight anymore (there's no more prone and hardly any bushes, so you have to find some decent cover). I know it's unpopular on this forum and the rest of the Internet, but I approve of the return to checkpoint-only saving like in Far Cry--stealth doesn't seem quite so overpowered when one slip-up can kick you back to the start of the area. I also really like how they handled the cover system. When you're up close against a low wall or corner, going to ironsights automatically makes you peek out to aim over or around the edge. If you've played Vietcong, it feels a lot like that. The constant text prompts reminding you about it are kind of annoying, though.
I have plenty of complaints about Crytek's botched handling of game options, graphic settings, console commands, etc. on the PC version, but mechanically it's solid. I wouldn't say it's that different from the first Crysis, though. Despite the changes, it's still pretty similar to fighting Koreans in the town / base / harbor sections of Crysis 1.

After my rage levels dropped I took a look at this again and found that config utility, but that still can't turn off motion blur. I tried every blur setting and it's still there.

This information has been posted in a lot of places online, but just to be clear: this is only the list of commands that still work via the in-game console.
A full (and intimidating) list of commands can be found (
http://www.fpstime.com/forum/crysis-2/crysis-2-3774-commands/#p88) here, but anything not listed in Eva's link MUST be adjusted by creating an autoexec.cfg file and placing it in the Crysis 2 folder*. This is what that config utility does, in fact. It's just a user-friendly way of picking out the right commands for you from that huge list.
~~~~~~~
Here's some additional info from my experiments. Maybe I can save a few headaches or get some help with the problems I haven't solved:
Motion blur: putting "r_MotionBlur 0" in the autoexec.cfg turns it off for me, but then I get weird glitches when I slide or get shot, like there's temporary burn-in of the image on the edges of my screen. I think it's because that's where the radial blurring is trying to happen (see below).
Radial blur: "g_radialBlur 0" keeps resetting to "g_radialBlur = 1" on game start. Can't figure out how to turn it off.
Bloom/glow/HDR?: including "r_Glow 0" does nothing; the console gives a "command not recognized" message even when I include it in the autoexec. I tried setting some of the other HDR settings to 0, but I can't get the bloom to go away.
Shadows: Those with wimpy computers might want to turn shadows off entirely, like you could in Crysis 1. "e_shadows 0" will do it, but I was surprised at how flat and ugly the game looks afterward. Crysis didn't look nearly as bad to me.
If you want crisp-edged, pixelated shadows, use "r_ShadowBlur 0" and "r_ShadowJittering 0." Most people probably find this uglier, but I prefer it.
~~~~~~~
If you want to see if Crysis 2 is recognizing the stuff in the config utility or whatever you manually stuck in autoexec.cfg, you can either open the console after the game starts or look at the "Game.log" file in the Crysis 2 folder. That's how I knew things like "g_radialBlur 0" weren't having any effect.
*(I think you can also add them to system.cfg or use them as +parameters in a shortcut to the .exe, but whatever)

Turn *off* motion blur?? But it looks so cool!
Renzatic on 25/3/2011 at 16:57
Yeah. Motion blur is one of those extra unnecessary features I actually enjoy. Keep it on. :mad:
