A practical advice for those who plan to play the game: delete everything from the Game\Localized\Video\ folder that doesn't start with 'bg' or 'cine'.
Anyway I don't really notice the optimization the devs spoke of. It pretty much runs like the original game. It doesn't seem to look better either, though I've only seen the first part of the first level so far. Not that Crysis looked bad or something. :)

I joined in the fun. I absolutely hate this DRM.

I'm disappointed with Valve's policy of just blithely allowing publishers to include additional DRM in Steam releases, on top of their own. They should take a stand against this.
But then, of course, they wouldn't want to rock the boat with EA since they're publishing their games now. :p

Crysis: Warhead is a definite purchase for me, but I won't be running the game until the exe and/or libs have been replaced with DRM-free ones.

Ive never played the original Crysis actually - its one of those games I have but have never installed because of the fear that my pc wouldnt be able to play it properly: having a gforce 7900 256mb, 2 gig of ram and intel dual core...
However the reviews for Warhead are infinately more positive so I'm thinking I'll grab this...

Crysis will definitely run at decent framerates on your machine @ low-medium.

Another trick. Create an autoexec.cfg file in the game's main directory, and include these lines:
r_TexturesStreaming 0
e_lods 0
It's supposed to prevent objects and textures being loaded in front of you. I don't even know why texture streaming is on in the first place, it makes the game look worse (with all the 'constantly' changing texture resolutions), and doesn't really affect performance.
Anyway for those who are interested, I have a P4 3,0GHz CPU, 2 GB RAM, x1950pro 512MB AGP card. Settings are: Textures/Objects - High, Shaders/Shadows/Physics/Post Processing - Medium, everything else on Low. It runs mostly great (above 20-25), in some big battles the fps drops, but still manageable. Looks great too.

i like it so far. got to the alien freeze part ( no real spoiler ). big on action and very fun. i hope they keep the pace and deliver some more big battles like before. defenitely more focused on big encounters than crysis but more linear.

I managed to finish it yesterday. It took me about 7-8 hours on Delta, but it's significantly shorter on easier difficulties (where you can just run through the levels). Generally it's more action packed than the original with more enemies per encounter, and there are some crazy intense parts (the From Hell's Heart level could be straight out of an action movie).
I didn't encounter any AI bugs or serious failings, so it's better than the original in that regard. No other bugs either, though it gave me a few CTDs later in the game. I liked the level design, though it was a bit more linear than the original. Also, we've got third person proper cutscenes now (not that I didn't like the original's), and they're well done too.
All in all, it was great fun, recommended if one liked the original.
Also, here's the Something Awful one sentence review: :)

Crysis Warhead
So good, it makes the first half of Crysis look like the last half of Crysis. 8/10
EDIT: Probably not that relevant, but it was the first game here in Hungary, where it was dubbed, but you could properly choose spoken language during installation. Actually, there's like 10 language packs for it right on the disc. So thumbs up for that one, especially since the Hungarian voice overs are pretty much the best I've heard so far (in games).

i played it in 8 hours on "normal". i didn't run through any levels, on the contrary some were that good that I replayed them. so i would say 6-7 hours on normal. unfortunately I had more bugs at the end of the game, like koreans not recognizing me and a big, big bug during the endfight of the game that made it almost un-finishable.
i didn't try out other voiceovers but now that I know they're there I will replay in hungarian as well. agree with the review. I had a blast, just don't expect too much and you will be pleasantly surprised.
