Crysis runs fine on my rig all Very High, 1360x768 no AA, with only a couple of notable exceptions. Framerate went completely to shit when I had to destroy the AAA site on the dock, and again in that first little barrack section in Awakenings. Apparently Awakenings is a common problem and is probably a memory leak issue, I assume the dock is as well.

I've never understood the idea that Crytek's games are all graphics and no gameplay. Even if you don't like the gameplay yourself, anyone can see that Crytek put a lot of effort into making something more then just "standard shooters".
This.

If Crysis runs badly on your rig, try lowering the resolution. I completed my first run on 1680x1050 on low-med settings and it runs like shit. Then I lowered the resolutions to 1280x800 on ultra and never experienced any slowdown at all. And it looks better.

For PC, 1Gb of video RAM is currently almost a standard.
I'm curious to know exactly what you mean by that.

Do video cards even go that high?
EvaUnit02 on 15/6/2008 at 05:40
512MB is pretty much the standard (with exceptions like the 8800GTS G80 640MB and 8800GTX 768MB, but both of those models have since been superseded by cards with 512MB. 9800GX2/3870x2 don't really count as they're really two GPUs on the same PCB.).
You can get non-reference design GPUs with 1GB VRAM, but the extra 512MB literally does next to nothing most of the time, since the bandwidth of said GPUs' memory interfaces is too small.
Expect this all to change within the next week or so when Nvidia unleash their proper next generation of cards.

I mean that for new generation of video cards for PC, 1GB of RAM installed on them is a standard. See imminent HD4800 (which promises to be another R9800 for ATI/AMD, success-wise I mean) or future nvidia cards. Some cards from current generation have 1Gb of RAM too. That's why I wrote 'almost'.

I'll read that as "becoming standard for high-end video cards" then. Fair enough, although I'm thinking that it's going to be a good 2-3 years before developers dare insist upon any more than one quarter of that.

It's the
game god damn it. Not the platform.
Shit...signs of the Apocalypse coming, for once I am 100% agreeing with dethtoll :)
Amen.
Still, I enjoyed both Crysis and CoD4 if for different reasons :)
