I've never thought of Love Reign O'er Me as a poor me song at all.
Oh, it isn't. I meant as a capper to the album as a whole, which is a litany of 'how fucked up am I and everything else?' songs. If we're talking a single song from Quad, it'll have to be Sea & Sand. The intercut between his optimism at being a fluffed-up cock of the walk even after he's been thrown out of his home and then at the ball: 'so how come the other tickets look much better? Without a penny to spend they dress to the letter?' Ouch.
That Ry Cooder blues guitar is perfect for a grey Thursday morning.
This isn't Locomotive Breath, but it's driving (they've got a brilliant drummer), and the singer sounds like he's got as many issues, so:

Also, Gray - Chaos Chaos did a small collab with RAC semi-recently, it's an extremely poppy track and maybe not your thing, but linking in case you didn't know about it.

I did not know about it. Thanks, I like it. Then again, I know almost nothing about anything, I just like to pretend that I do. That one is pretty good.

Just because you were talking about "poor me" songs, I had to listen to (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravenhurst_(band)) Gravenhurst again:

I was in my twenties, not always the happiest person around, and many tears were cried to that song.
Flashlight Seasons was also the first album of theirs that I bought. More were still to come, but this remained my favourite. I haven't listened to it in a long, long while, but it's still as good as back then.

Liked The National and can chill to Clan and Gravenhurst.
This is the opposite of a poor me but I laughed when I ran across it. I had to share. Normally religious music makes me wince but lordy this one....

This is more my style though and is more my kind of poor me-

It's funny that you mention Clan Of Xymox. Clan Of Xymox is a Dutch band. I am Dutch. Clan Of Xymox is an eighties band. I happened to have been young in the eighties. Clan Of Xymox is seen as a "Gothic" band. The music I happened to listened to in the eighties (and many of my friends) is now considered Gothic. (Joy Division, Virgin Prunes, Sisters, Cocteau Twins, DCD, etc. FYI the term "gothic music" didn't really take off until 1990. When all the classic gothic albums were already 10 years old).
I hardly know Clan Of Xymox. Of course I know the name. Of course I had heard some of their music. But I wasn't impressed. My friends were also not impressed. Everybody in NL kinda forgot about CoX. It was considered a crappy band, or a "band full of fakers". Nobody liked them. I think they had more success abroad than in their own country. Another detail: the CoX all lived in Amsterdam, but originally came from another city. I happened to live in that city during my studies. Funny how in their hometown nobody liked them. And everybody forgot about them. :) I've been building up my music collection over the last year (1550 albums now). And when browsing the net, I ran into the name Clan Of Xymox. First time I heard about them in 20+ years. Completely forgotten.
Anyway, I will listen to their first 2 albums. And I will definitely watch The Guest. Bauhaus, Sisters, DAF, those were the bands I listened to when I was young.
And although this is not the music thread, I'll point you to a song that came out long after I followed music closely. I heard this song first time earlier this year. And it surprised me. This is how electronic dance music should sound. So much better than Clan Of Xymox.

It kind of is the music thread. It's the only active one. Anyway, I found the antidote song for that Mannequin Pussy song. It's so sweet and takes you back to youth. The video reminds me of those days of stolen glances and unspoken longing.
I swear I thought the singer was female at first.

^ sly NIN reference? He's their current touring keyboardist after all. From his songs, it sounds like the dude really likes his modular synths. Anyway, his later pop-inflected songs are catchier if still repetitive.

Tocky: that really did sound like a girl for a minute. Here's another counter, in a different vein. Alternative medicine, maybe.
