Thank you guys for all your input. I'm starting to get excited by this whole idea instead of just frustrated by my own limitations. :D
The_Dude - Thank you for the link. That's the kind of thing I was looking for. I couldn't believe no one had thought to make a better looking blackjack ... considering how much time I spend looking at mine!
Shadowspawn - Oh my gosh, that would be awesome! If you have the time and desire, I would love it if you could create a new and improved blackjack for me. I was trying not to be too specific because I would be happy with anything that keeps me away from object creation, but I do have a few ideas for what it would look like.
Like you mentioned, the original model could use some smoothing out - although at this point, I'm pretty use to my good old bumpy blackjack. ;) As for the color, I was thinking either an even blacker black or another dark shade, since the blackjack is a stealth weapon and it ought to blend with the shadows. The specific blackjack I have in mind is suppose to have magical properties so a mystical symbol like a keeper glyph or precursor-type symbol wouldn't be out of place. The general feel of the weapon should be mystical and unique or possibly dark and ominous, either would work for my purposes.
I don't want to give away too much before the mission is released, but here's a little more info on how and where it will be used:
My plan is to have this weapon as an "easter egg" type reward for finding a difficult-to-reach, well-hidden secret area of my mission. It will be an ancient magical artifact, the ShadowJack, which enshrouds the wielder in darkness. Thereby providing Garrett with an incredibly powerful weapon to use in the main mission, assuming he is able to reach the secret area to claim the ShadowJack.
I have the blackjack working in game - it's very nifty, like a reusable invisibility potion. Whenever you take it out of your inventory, your light gem goes dark and Garrett has a portable shadow to strike from. I plan on surprising my younger sister with it once it is fully functional. She's the primary beta-tester for all my missions and loves to blackjack unsuspecting guards. This weapon will be too overpowered for normal gameplay, but I bet some taffers out there will have a field day using this thing ... assuming they can find it of course.
Nameless Voice - That's great :) I have to pickup the next release and save myself working on another conversation.
Will your ShadowJack have a different skin ?
I'm also looking for a replacement blackjack, the original one is so poor...
Something like the TDS spiked blackjack would be great. :D

That spikey blackjack is silly, IMO. It's not really a blackjack is it, when it's got spikes in it? It's meant to KO, not fill with holes! :joke:

I mean, not spikes, but flat nails, to strengthen the impact, arf. :cheeky:
dlw6 had made a pretty good model of this type of blackjack, but it wasn't wieldable, unfortunately.

Spikes or nails, that will kill 'em, not knock them out!
I'm pretty sure you're talking about a Club, not a Blackjack! :cheeky:

Yeah, I wasn't thinking of a spikey or bumpy blackjack ... in fact, I think the current model is plenty bumpy already. ;) I just want to be able to gently and quietly ease guards into a good night's sleep ... and let them wake to a splitting headache the next morning. But I need a blackjack with a slightly different appearance so that the player realizes something has changed and, ideally, considers it a change for the better. :D

FLAT nails, I said ! :p
Raaah, not good enough in English to be understood. The original blackjack is made of a material called in French "nerf-de-boeuf", which grossly means "beef nerve". The blackjack I'm referring too is made in this material, but with flat bumpy nails junting out 1-2 centimetres. Do you see the original TDS menu, with Garrett holding a blackjack ? THIS is what I'm thinking. ;)

i never liked the TDS blackjack bumps. It seems like unnecessary cruelty to guards. :laff:

I ported over the wrench from System Shock 2 to use as a blackjack in a small FM I made some time ago, complete with blood splatters on it. :ebil:

Let me play with some ideas this week - I think I can get you something you'd like.
