In T2 'Customize Controls' crashes me to the desktop. Thief 2 runs OK otherwise. I adjusted my key controls years and haven't altered them for a long time so I don't know how long this has been like this. Any ideas?

You can make a backup copy of your bindings, then copy the original from the CD and see if it works. Worst case scenario is you have to redo your bindings... this actually happened to me once last year, but since I have multiple installs I just copied my bindings from one of the other directories over and fixed it that easily.

OK Yandros, I'll check it out.

At the time of this thread I couldn't find the original bindings on the CD. Now I realize I was looking on the wrong disk! Forgot there were two. In addition, the customize controls option miraculously starting working again so I forgot all about it.
Now I need to take a screen dump and Alt + F10 seems to do nothing. No dumpXX or anything like it in the main T2 or any folder. I also saw F9 in one of the Dromed configs so tried that but no result. I exited Dromed and tried direct running thief2.exe but the same. So thought I'd check the bindings. That's when I found the old customize controls problem still there.
So I stripped out all bnd files and restored the originals from the CD and it still crashes to the desktop if I try to access the customize controls screen.
So there may be two problems here as all my keys work as normal except the dump screen so that might be a problem on its own. My last resort will be a completely new install of T2 elsewhere unless anyone can think of a quick fix.

Sorry about resurrecting this old thread, but I started having this same problem today after reviving Dromed after sometime.
When ever I go into Game Mode and click on Custom Controls in the main menu, the program crashes to the desktop. The problem occurs after installing Dromed Toolkit 1.0, more specifically, the MENUS.CFG file being the culprit for some reason. Right now I'm comparing the original MENUS.CFG and the one from Dromed Toolkit to find some difference that may cause this problem.

Okay, so after half an hour of comparing and contrasting with the original MENUS.CFG and the one packaged with Dromed Toolkit I found the problem. It seems Dromed is being finicky about the total amount of items in the drop down menu. To remedy this, I went through the Dromed Toolkit's MENUS.CFG and streamlined the options available to suit my own needs and now the problem of crashing has disappeared.
Huzzah! :thumb:

Are you sure it's being caused by menus.cfg? The custom keybind files seem more likely to cause that sort of problem.

That's what I thought. I isolated the problem by substituting the overwritten files with original Thief files one by one until I got a crash and lo and behold it only crashed when I swapped out the MENUS.CFG. After getting to that point, I duplicated the Toolkit's menu data into the original file one section at a time until it crashed thinking there might be typo or something. Dromed kept running fine until I was half way through the "Textures" menu. So I went ahead and deleted lines I previously pasted in the file and I was able to continue adding items from the "Textures" section until it crashed again. I realized Dromed would only crash when I put more items in the menu than I had deleted.
I'm not sure why it's having this effect and furthermore why not everyone has this problem. Just another mystery of Dromed...

I have the same problem when trying to change my settings while using dromed..
I simply started up thief exe , make the changes and .. done..
then they allso work in dromed..

I rarely come to this forum these days so was amazed by chance to see this thread and see that I started it so many years ago! I can't remember the outcome but presumably I jut re-installed. I kept a blank fresh install so all I would have needed to do is copy that folder and start over.
