Well I was reading SE's har har har thread and someone made a post joking about unskippable cutscenes.
But then I realized, there's something else that is driving me insane about games. Seriously! If someone walks up to me needing to talk in the middle of a cutscene I should be able to pause it. And if I want to skip the cutscene then I should be able to do so.
Here's what we need - one button that is unanimously used for SKIP CUTSCENE, and another button that is unanimously used for PAUSE CUTSCENE. I say unanimously, because I think that this needs to become a common control for ALL games (kind of like how space bar is typically jump or left click is typically fire/attack). There needs to be a common control scheme for this because the player shouldn't have to "guess" what button will pause the cutscene or what button will skip it. On my 360 I have to guess whether the start button will cause me to skip the cutscene or not, and it's always different.
I think Thief 4 is a good place to start.

Seconded! I get hissy just thinking of all the time wasted having to sit through cutscenes I'd already seen, while furiously clicking and hitting every key I can to make it stop.

I think MGS4 did this well. You hit start to pause a cutscene, and the pause screen gave you the option to skip the scene. This is very good, since that game had freaking long cutscenes. But I think this practice should be adopted across the board.
For computers, I think the escape key is a natural choice.

ESC ......... skip
SPACE ... pause
space is already being used as pause in most video players

I second that.

If pausing allows screenshots, then ... *wanders off, jabbering happily to himself about desktop wallpapers*

Well, I know it's an offtopic, but nonetheless: what about demo recording? This feature is really cool, because it would give a nice ability to watch gameplay by other taffers. Morethen, it would even promote the game itself to hardware testing sites, because the last ones really do like to use the games with this feature, and such a publicity would improve the sales of the game.

theBlackman: Yes, I do. But please remember the difference between the sizes of video file recorded by FRAPS and demo file recorded by the game itself (demo file can be smaller by tens, hundreds and even thousands times!). Please remember that utilities like FRAPS are shareware, i.e. they do have limits until you purchase them. Please remember that using utilities like FRAPS is often makes gameplay worse because of recording of tons graphics and sound on HDD.

ingame demo recording with export to files/pics is far, far superior and less HW-demanding than ANY 3rd party application (xfire, fraps, wegame,....).
if it's possible, please make it available :)
