I mention NTVDM and your very next post is a rant about VDMsound. What do you think that looks like?
Besides, this is you we're talking about.

Thanks.

If you dont speak to someone in the main castle within the first two days of game play then the game is unwinable, unless they've fixed that bug.

VDMsound was total shit even back when it was relevant, I spit on its grave. DOSbox empties its bowels upon it from great heights
They're utterly different. With VDMSound you're not emulating the complete hardware of a DOS-era PC, which makes it massively more efficient. So from a performance perspective, VDMSound empties its bowels upon DOSBox from a great height. Except it doesn't, because
they're not comparable applications.

If you have a Geforce 8800, you are
screwed and will have to play in DOSbox due to the fact that the Nvidia BIOS coders removed sections of BIOS code, which makes it incompatible with DOS or the NTVDM environment.
I had DOS games work just fine in the NTVDM environment until I installed the 8800 and now they will only work with DOSbox.
Have you tried (
http://advsys.net/ken/build.htm) NOLFB?
As Ken Silverman puts it, "When DOS programs initialize the VESA 2.0 linear framebuffer mode, one of the steps (after the screen mode is set) is using DPMI function call (ax=0x800) to map video memory into a linear space. Under WinNT/2K/XP, this call always fails. I don't know why. My programs exit to DOS with this error message: "DPMI_mapPhysicalToLinear() failed!". Unfortunately, the screen is usually black or jumbled at this point, so to most people, it looks like a crash. (If you don't believe me, type "duke3d > error.txt" at the command prompt and look at error.txt after running it :)"
It might only partially apply to your problem but it might be worth trying.

NOLFB does not work. I have Redneck Rampage all set up with NOLFB and everything else and it does not work with the 8800. NTVDM has been permanently effed in the ay by this card; a shame, considering it plays modern games beautifully.

I'm finding attacking really flaky. Moving the mouse doesn't result in a weapon swing a lot of the time and when it works it's really slow and jerky. Any way to improve on this?

But is it bug-free?
and does it work on xp
A Bethesda game without bugs? Is that possible?
