this project deserves more than a random dying post.

I agree...

Interesting project. I've never played Daggerfall though; I do, however, remember it garnering a reputation as being amazingly massive and amazingly buggy. According to gaming rag and internet legend it was so buggy, in fact, that you were considered supremely lucky if the game worked on your PC without an issue when it launched.
Part of its massiveness came from procedurally generated towns and cities and such, which makes me wonder how much actual good content (i.e., not filler) is in the game, and if the game itself merits a meticulous reworking-over for more current PCs.
Anyone played this here? Was it also as pretty, painstakingly crafted, and ultimately soulless as Morrowind and Oblivion?

I thought this project had died long ago. Or I may be thinking of one by another person that did. Either way, this is great. I'd love to replay this game this way. I just wonder if they plan to fix the game's bugs.
Re: Sulphur
Its basically a 3D roguelike. Sure it's all random, but it's the adventure of creating your own story that's great.

I never played it either. If it weren't for this project I'd probably try getting it working in Dosbox or something now that it's free.
It seems like it would have a lot of the shortcomings of Morrowind and Oblivion, but from what I've read it also had an amazing amount of crap to explore and see. It may not be the prettiest crap, but it was there. Some people that I know who played it would play it endlessly, and had fun.
My friend and his family suspected that his sister had a computer that booted straight into Daggerfall. :laff:
I'm really interested in it, especially since the remake should fix bugs and allow for updating some of the features of the program to make it more playable for a contemporary audience. And I don't mind the old graphics, haha.

I bought Daggerfall when it was released. For its time it was a very cool game for those who loved to explore and dungeon crawl, though I am sure it was not for everyone. Some of the dungeons where so big you could easily get lost in there for a few days (particularly those underneath castles). Yes, it had its fair share of bugs... and then some, but the ability to go out and do your own thing in this world kept me amused for years. For quests, you still had all the factions to join and work for as well as finding work from taverns and such. The quests were repetitive, but still fun to do. Especially for thieves and assassins. Many times you would have to arrive at a city at night, climb over the walls, and sneak through the streets. Something about that appealed to me and has always stuck in my mind.
Another interesting thing was to go to the mages guild and read the books in the library. There you could research about the various daedric princes and how to go about summoning them. This would involve working out specific times (from memory once a month) as well as other little things. I do not believe this was a simple task, but eventually you would perform a ritual and get to speak with who ever you were trying to summon. This would then lead you on some grand adventure in order to receive a daedric prize. I definitely missed that in Morrowind and Oblivion as it was very rewarding. Sure they have the shrines, but it is not the same.
I could probably rant on much more about all the little things that made this game so memorable (again, overlooking the bugs), but I'll leave it at that.
Not sure if this is the same guy, but I recall a similar project a while back where a team were using DarkBasic to rework Daggerfall.

another great point of this re-engine of daggerfall is the amount of moddability that will be added,
quests, items, probably more powerful scripted stuff aswell.
there was even some discussions about multiplayer on the forums for daggerxl, its not an impossibility.
