Great mission, Yandros! :thumb: :thumb: But I just don't understand how to
get the blue scarab. Have the ancient map, the journal with the poem & have exposed the 4 earth symbols on the lower level. (hitting them with fire arrows - "warmed by the sun" - only changes them to air symbols). And haven't derived any help from what's already been said about this. NO idea what to do next.
Could someone please give a straightout clue on this?
Mucho thanx. :)

Sticky Fingers: NV already "double" spoiled that in his last post.

SinisterShadow : Thanks for the fast answer, but I got it now;
understood where each one should be, just never thought of something as simple as keep hitting 'em. D'Oh!
I'd cruised to that point - can't believe the simplicity of the things I tend to overlook in missions. :o

Yes, but NV just gave the solution, and arrived at it by trial and error. I'd like to explain how you're supposed to figure it out here:
The clue on the last page of Dre'bek's journal is the prose he recorded as B'irian's dying words:
"And when the Scarab felt the cold winds blow from the steppes of D'irith Ta'an, it did wisely travel to the warm Sea of Sorrows. There it didst behold the fiery sun rise up and warm the frozen Ti'arinth Mountains, and it was at peace."
You're supposed to use this in combination with the map and B'irian's note found in the secret map room (through the wall by the glowing scarab on the lower level), and note the locations of the four cycling placards and the large scarab on the lower level map. The four placards are roughly in the cardinal directions from the large scarab, and each one corresponds to an element identified by the prose and located on the map:
* Since D'irith Ta'an is in the north, the northern placard (north of the scarab on the map) is Air.
* Since the Sea of Sorrows is in the south, the southern placard is Water.
* Since the sun rose up, the eastern placard is Fire.
* Since the Ti'arinth Mountains are in the west, the western placard is Earth.
Just 'dial the combination' by hitting the placards repeatedly with your mace (or a substitute if playing on Suicidal mode) and then go look in the niche by the southern (Water) placard.
I have adjusted the book files for all three non-English languages. Italian was generally OK but I made some formatting adjustments to the longer journals. French had a few problems, and German had major problems as SS already noted.
You can get a "Book Patch" (
http://www.wearytaffer.com/archive/myfm/DwtDBookPatch.zip) here, instructions are in the Readme - they require some basic knowledge of updating ZIP archives. If you are playing in any of these languages and already downloaded the mission, I urge you to download the patch or wait and redownload the updated archive before playing.
I'm also working to update the main ZIP files but it may be a while before Jason gets it up at Thiefmissions, and it will take me 45 minutes just to upload both updated archives.

Again, Yandros, great mission, enjoyed it thoroughly from start to finish -- THANK-YOU :D
BTW, worked out the blue scarab bit just as you said in your last post, just didn't keep hitting the symbols (too gentle-natured, I guess :cheeky: ) -- still feel really stupid though.
Particularly liked :-
The chests; I've always wanted to see what I'm stealing,
The way the (very clever) secrets did not involve tiny little switches,
The method of getting the King's sarcophagus open,
Those awesome scarab mines, &
The Benny Bomb - great to see him do something useful for a change!!!
Anyway, thanx again :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! My personal favourite part is opening the real king's sarcophagus. Does anyone know if any other missions have had rooms where you can turn gravity on and off?

Awesome mission. I loved playing it.
The Benny Bomb was hilarious. Seeing the spirit of Benny charging full-speed at the skeleton yelling "Yer dog meat!" and promptly beating whatever organic material it had left out of it... Really made my day.
I'm gonna go play through it again right now, even.

:thumb: My congratulations to you, Yandros (and all those who helped you). Excellent is an understatement. I'm usually not fond of "undead" missions, but this one was much different, to say the least. I too loved the
"Benny Bombs".
Great work!
