Yeah, totally. It makes the game seem really EDGY and hip, I'm totally going to go buy it now. I absolutely did not just lose complete respect for this game and for EA's marketing.
Actually, I'm not even going to rent the thing. I'm amused by their shit PR, though, so I guess something good came out of the production.
You're not contradicting me there, if that's what you were going for with the sarcasm, I already covered that. This is the reaction they get out of
you. And likely the rest of us here on TTLG, not that we needed any more reason to view this game as nothing more than a comical turd.
But in case TTLG has spoiled you to the point of forgetting what it was like before you found this place, there are
other online communities out there, some of which harbour cretinism of such magnitude that it had little to no means of expression prior to the wide availability of internet. And in those places it doesn't matter much whether EA's antics get brought up critically or with praise, because, ultimately, the game gets exposure, and those whom are of the disposition to look upon this crap favourably will get their chance to do so. And, I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that it's that particular demographic that EA are targeting with this game and that they're gearing its publicity to.

That's a fair point.
But there HAS to be a theoretical limit, right? There's the point where people can say, "this is lame." That point where it portrays the developers themselves in a negative light (I know that publishers and developers are different, but they are often grouped together by casuals).

Yes, but there's ten shitloads more people who are thinking "Groping girls innappropriately? Right on, EA!"

There's just no way to screw up a game about Jack the Ripper. Sure you can make it a gore fest without any substance to it, but still.
Unless they throw in Dave the magical horse from planet Pluto that turns into an angel which tells Jack to kill women.
Oh my goodness they're going to screw up won't they?

but what should it be about ? I can understand an adventure for example but the studio is known for 3rd person action stuff. if YOU play Jack-the-Ripper will you have quicktime events for ripping throats or will you have to study medicine books all the time to do proper knife cuts to the organs ? will you have to wank into their open wounds after cutting them up ? since he was never found, who will your "enemy" be ? maybe the whores all have special abilities like teeth vaginas ?
or you play a whore ?
or you play a policeman ?
Anyways for an 3rd person action game JackTheRipper can ONLY be screwed up, its story or "mythos" just doesn't lend itself to such a game. I hope they have a different angle for this game than DeadSpace/Dante

Jack the Rippers - you play a space marine from the future who goes back to Victorian London to correct the space-time continuum after Jack the Ripper accidentally got cloned thousands of times. Weapons include twin shoulder-mounted chainguns and a rapid-fire rocket launcher.

why care, 19th century London is fantastic setting. Do something clever, something like no that isn't what really happend, tada awesome concept that can go everywhere. Season with some Dickens for charm.
