Very NSFW:- (

It's not just like God of War, it IS God of War. The control scheme is literally the same. This isn't homage we're talking about here, the gameplay mechanics are ripped wholesale out of God of War. So it plays pretty well, at least.
Why is this noteworthy? I've lost count of the amount of FPSes, RTSes and RPGs that I've played over the years that have near identical controls, key binds, game mechanics, etc over the years.

Keybinds, controls: fair enough. But not having even one single defining feature in the gameplay that separates your game from its source? Uninspired plagiarism. And... God of War did Hades already.
Even Dark Sector had the glaive, for chrissake.
Speaking of which, Merry Christmas to one and all!

Hmm...Dante's Inferno or Bayonetta to buy.
I've played both demo's on xbox and while I am fully aware they are both pretty much identical gameplay wise; I havent been this torn between two games since the great Quake 4 or Prey debacle many years ago. (I bought Quake 4 in the end which was actually very fun).
While I love Bayonetta's style, theres something about Dante's Inferno that appeals - maybe its the fact that you fight DEATH in, like the second battle...
Tough one.

As long as you avoid the absolute shithouse PS3 port of Bayonetta, you should be fine with either game.
SubJeff on 1/1/2010 at 14:58
Yeah, Dante's Inferno has a nice style. Appeals to me much more than Bayonetta.
Eva I don't see what the issue is with the Bayonetta port. Have you personally reviewed the 360 and PS3 versions, or even the demos? The demo for Bayonetta on PS3 was fine for me .

It was supposedly a poor port handled by a 3rd party (a team at Sega) rather than in-house by the developer (Platinum Games). The framerate is reportedly much worse than the 360 version, even after the recent PS3 patch.
"...with huge loading times, a stalling frame rate with lots of screen tearing." If you've played a properly optimised Extreme Combat game before, you'll know that a sense of speed is key, especially in the case of something that's a direct descendent of Devil May Cry (which Bayonetta is).
EDIT: (

It's no secret by now that Bayonetta on the PS3 is little more than a less-than-stellar port of the leading Xbox 360 version. Long loading times, poor framerate and altogether murkier graphics stand out to make Bayonetta inferior on the PS3, but it's now being reported that Western PS3 fans might not suffer as much as Japanese ones.
According to Gamekyo (translated by Wearetheinternetz), Sega and Platinum Games have "taken responsibility" for the slapdash port and have charged an engineering team from Sony itself with the task of bringing it up to par before the North American release. The team hopes to "guarantee" a version of Bayonetta that is equal to the PS3's considerable power.
There is hope I suppose, but the reports show that (
http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?t=306081) the improved Western demo is still showing issues. Hopefully the final game will be better.

I'll believe it when I see it. Assassins Creed was supposed to be a poor port and tbh I think it looks great on PS3. This may be nitpicking, but then it might actually be bad. Your "shithouse" comment was over egging it a bit, no?
thefonz on 1/1/2010 at 23:14
Fuck it, I'm buying both.
