I wonder if there is any source code released for the Dark Engine or are there any specifications of the formats and data the engine is using? Any links or info would be helpful .

Feels a bit less classy to use a leaked versions :erg:. So there is not official source code yet?, i had some hope that it would be released after all this time had passed. Are there any fan made versions of the game in the works?

NewDark is a "fan made version"

I remember an arcade "Thief" game with space ships that I played years ago. I don't know if this is still available and who did it. Maybe it's the same taffer who made Newdark.

Sadly no official source releases, but at least the game has been updated to work with modern engines. Classy or not, it's a great thing. :)

I have created a small website to document some game engines and there is a section for the dark engine at (
https://sites.google.com/site/graymerdocs/dark) https://sites.google.com/site/graymerdocs/dark . If anyone has information about the format of .bin, .mc, .mi, .cal, .e or .map files it would help :D.

Shadowspawn and Weyoun did a lot of work figuring out the motion schema format, but I don't know if it's really documented anywhere.

.cal: The animation data of a mesh, the joints
.mc, .mi: ?
.mjo: Text file that specify some form of data about the limbs.
.Mis: holds the terrain information and object placement in a misson.
.Gam: The object hierarchy.
