Ok, I couldn't get NewDarkLoader to work at all (seems the cam_mod. file has now disappeared from the T2 directory under Steam after the 3rd attempt to get the NewDarkLoader to work) and I'm not seeing a way to change the path of the installation from my Steam account. I wanted to try FMSel, but it seems I need a new patch first and from what I've read, T2 cannot be installed in the Program Files (x86) directory. I haven't a clue how I can change that to a different folder to install T2 from Steam. This is proving to be more problematic than it should.

Open Steam Library.
From menu (top left corner), select "Steam", then select "Settings".
From Settings dialog, select "Downloads" in left pane, then under "Content Libraries" heading, click "Steam Library Folders".
From there click "Add Library Folder".
It should be fairly evident what to do from there.
You will most likely have to uninstall Thief 2 and re-install it again, but this time choosing your new library folder instead of the default library folder.
When you install a game, there is a pick list at the bottom of the install dialog ("Choose Location For Install").

Almost. Some light hacking is needed to allow two installation folders on the same drive.
After some research (and I have a few steam programs myself) I think this is how you do it:
If you want to move Thief2 into C:\games\, go to that folder and create an empty folder called steamapps (this cannot be avoided).
Next, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps and open libraries.vdf in a text editor.
Make it look like this:
Code:
"LibraryFolders"
{
"TimeNextStatsReport" "some number"
"ContentStatsID" "some other number"
"1" "C:\\Games"
}
I don't know what the two numbers are, so I've removed them in case they're meant to be confidential.
Close Steam (properly, i.e. from the system tray) and restart it.
Go the the library, and right click on Thief2. Go to Properties, Local Files and select Move install folder.
C:\games should be the only option, but you can select others if there are more.
After clicking Move it will take a while, but once done the game will be in C:\Games\steamapps\common\Thief2

Interesting. When I did my second library on the same drive, Steam did all that automatically for me.
My libraries.vdf already showed what you listed above without manual edits (didn't even know that file existed until a few minutes ago).
I did not notice, however, the "move" game capability. Much easier than re-installing a game.

how to play T2 FMs in the Easiest, Simplest, Non-Tech-Savvy People Way Possible™
1) install T2 (preferably into a non-protected location)
2) drop the (
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CRMBxok2FEPhMNoXrezLVtF9ZFHu8KEY) latest T2 NewDark package right onto it, overwrite
3) edit cam_mod.ini, delete the semicolon from the ;fm line, save and exit
4) launch Thief2.exe, let it create the FMs folder, exit
5) move/copy the fan mission in its own folder into the FMs folder, launch Thief2.exe
or just use TafferPatcher once it gets updated.

I still use Darkloader for my FM's even when i got a new PC, when i had to install Taffer Patcher to make it run I got FMSel included and it's the best of both world's for those FM's that won't work in Darkloader.

I might switch to Newdarkloader in the near future, but so far have had 0 issues with Darkloader, except for a single mission years back (whose name escapes me) that only worked with FMsel
