Dark Messiah didn't steal from
Thief, it paid tribute. LGS devs and a TTLG member worked on it. And like all other games, it never comes close to the
Thief experience, but uses things
Thief brought to the gaming industry.
Yes! I said "stolen" because I didn't know, when I was playing, that there was Randy into the team.
I am sure now that they have payed the rights to use that stuffs. :) Anyway knowing that that mechanist's music were used in another context hurts a little my nerves.
And I am wondering why they didn't provide new sounds instead?
And, above all, why Thief, the source of the sounds and some ideas, where neither translated into italian while Dark Messiah is it?

From the credits, the former LGS guys I noticed on the list (I probably missed someone):
Ambient Cues: Kemal Amarasingham
Game Design Consultant: Randy Smith
Level Designer: Michael Thomas Ryan
Special Thanks: Warren Spector, Tom Leonard, Paul Neurath, Marc LeBlanc, Harvey Smith
Gabe Farris (not LGS, but worked on TDS) got a special thanks, too.

The first one who was? And what are the ambientation cues?

Look dude.
The Thief games were the end result of a decade and a half long struggle of a team more brilliant than you could ever hope to imagine. The ground breaking company died because people like you are so consumed with the money aspect of our business. Don't you understand that there is quite a long history here, between *all* these folks in the crpg business? They have been "borrowing" or "paying tribute" or whatever the hell you want to call it since the start of Ultima/Wizardry in the earliest 1980s. So please, before you continue with this line of a "borrowed" sound bite, you may wish to consider the fact that if your amazing little truth that only you know about was made public, you would be alienating the entire history of documented CRPG and *all* included.
How could you live with yourself?

O_O
OK, sorry, sorry...
I just don't understand one phrase: "The ground breaking company died because people like you are so consumed with the money aspect of our business."
???

Perhaps I must now apologise?
I may have misunderstood your intentions for inquiring into this matter so thoroughly.

Correct me if I am wrong, you want them to be compensated for *one little modified clip*? In the grand scheme of the cost of the game, that one little clip means painfully little. :( If a game was comprised of all or mostly "borrowed" content you would have a game such as (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121677) Limbo of the Lost. Yet you want them to be compensated for this clip?!?!
Why?
massimilianogoi on 21/9/2009 at 19:46
Hey dude, first calm down, since no one here wants provoking anyone else.
Then: I just have started to play Dark Messiah, since it's been years that I wanted it, and these are not only but my very first impression. I give relevance to these impressions near 0, so take them with the seriousness they deserves.
I am strongly affectionated to the Mechanists, that's why that music doesn't sounds goodly in that ambient for MY ears, but these are only my impressions. Anyone else is free to think about it as he want.
Anyway, you still have to answer to my question: ttlg died because people like ME is so consumed with the money aspect of your business??? What sense has this phrase?

None.
Goldmoon is an idiot. Ignore him.

Ambients are the sounds in the background to give the settings their audio mood and atmosphere, which include music.
From the TDP credits:
A/V Support: Kemal Amarasingham
From the Thief Gold credits:
Audio Designer: Kemal Amarasingham
From the TMA credits:
Audio: Kemal Amarasingham, Ramin Djawadi (did some music and other)
Check (

this video again, at 7:47. Here's the transcript:
Quote:
Eric Brosius, Lead Audio Designer: The Audio Department is three people. It's myself, a guy named
Kemal Amarasingham, and a guy named
Ramin Djawadi. It's nice to have them aboard. Pretty much, everyone splits duties and does everything.
Thief is very interesting, sound-wise, because it's one of the first games that really uses sound as a central part of the gameplay.
You work hard on the sound and it's nice to have a game that really shows it off. In
Thief II, we'll hopefully be able to expand a little bit. Although we don't want to change the nature of sound in
Thief. We don't wanna have, like, disco tracks in the background because it's not appropriate, but hopefully we'll be able to do some more involved things.
Kemal's number 2 on the index, here:

Well poop.
ttlg is not dead. Looking Glass Studios (LGS) hath shut its doors however.
Anyway, if you want so badly to make sure that they are paying for a miniscule audio clip, I apparently falsely assumed that you were a money-minded individual with little care for the advancement of the cause. I had already explained this in my last post though, so...
My bad.
:)
:ebil:
btw, thats some neat ninja edits you pulled. :p make sure everything looks right!
