If any of you Taffers have a computer capable of playing this game, I strongly suggest you do so, as a Thief character. I've been watching my brother play and it is truly unbelievable. You can play strictly as a Thief, and the game has Rope Arrows (better than the original Thief). There is indeed a form of "Light Gem" that will bathe you in shadow, when your skill is sufficient. I have already witnessed several areas that expand on The Bonehoard and others similar to The Lost City. Although the original Thief had the perfect atmosphere and can *never* be outdone, this game does have environments that are so spacious that they dwarf The Bonehoard. I watched bro start from the ground of some huge ancient crypt-like area and Rope Arrow his way up various beams and supports probably 100 feet or so high! Not only that, but there are plenty of goodies stashed around to find through exploration; secrets areas, traps, sculptures...
Now, the fact that the Might and Magic brand is attached to the game makes me feel especially victorious. :)

Yeah I finished the game a month or so ago and loved it, its what T3 should have been, and I imagine what the DarkMod will be capable of...
Ive been trying to find a cheat for the game so I can play from the begining with the best weapons...

Hi 242, yes its exactly that - its thief with modern graphics and a bit of rpg thrown in.

Dark Messiah is a fantastic game, but Thief it most certainly is not, unless your idea of Thief is a completely linear fantasy game focusing entirely on combat where the stealth element is only useful in the latter fifth of the game due to the skill point cost in achieving level 3.
It has swords, zombies and rope arrows, a couple of Thief-ish levels but that's about it. The only people who could describe it as Thief are those who rush through it killing everything in sight.
Still, Dark Messiah is a fantastic game and is easily my Game of the Year.

Anyway, I was planning on getting this, but the poor performance in the demo made me want to wait a bit until it gets cheap and my PC is upgraded once more. Or is the performance somehow better in the full game?

Whoops, typos.
It's very RAM hungry, but performance is better than the demo, however I went from 1GB to 3GB very soon after getting it and it's now as smooth as you like.

Apparently one of the items you can buy in the game is an expensive second hand 'master thief's outfit'. Embroidered inside the collar is a scarlet letter G.
David on 26/12/2006 at 20:25
Indeed, but you don't buy anything in the game, you find it all.

Oh ok. It gives you a bonus or something though doesn't it? Anyway, I thought it was was a cute nod. A couple of reviews point out the at least superficial similarities to Thief. At least the designers were conscious of it.

Yeah, it gives you a stealth bonus.
